BUGGY BOOT OR APRON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 704,276, dated July 8, 1902.
Application filed December 19, 1901. Serial No. 36,571. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HEINRICH ADOLPH So- RENSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at I-Iinckley, in the county of De kalb and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Buggy Boot or Apron, of which the following is a specification. V
This invention relates to lap-robes or buggyaprons.
The object of the invention is to provide alap-robe which will effectually prevent the cold air from getting under the robe and which is provided with means for protecting the chest and limbs of a person using it.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings representsalongitudinalvertical section through the robe, showing a man incased therein, a portion of a vehicle-body being shown with the robe in adjusted relation thereto. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of this improved robe.
The same reference-numerals indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
In the form illustrated in the drawings a robe or apron is shown composed of a lower section and an upper or lap section 20, connected at their opposite edges by side sections and &0. These sections are attached at their lower ends to a bottom or foot section 50. These sections may be joined together in any suitable manner, preferably by stitching, and they may be formed from any suitable material, according to existing conditions or requirements of the climate. The lap-robe may, for instance, be composed of heavy cloth, fur, or any material which will effectually retain the heat and prevent the entrance of cold air between the sections or into the interior of the casing formed by the sections.
The lower or bottom section 10 is provided with arear extension or flap 11,which is adapted to be placed on the seat of the vehicle between the cushion and the person occupying the vehicle. The upper or top section 20 is also provided with an extended flap 21, which tapers toward its outer end and is preferably made somewhat shorter than the flapll of the bottom section. The upper tapered end of this top section 20 is preferably provided with a strap 60, attached at one end to the top section 20, preferably by stitching, and having a snap-hook 61 at its free end. A shorter strap 70 is attached at one end to the lap or top section and is provided at its other end with a loop or eye 71, adapted to be engaged by the snap-hook 61 of the strap 60. This strap 60 is designed to be placed about the neck .of the person incased in the robe to hold the lapsection well up in front of him to more thoroughly protect him from the weather.
The lap-section 20 is preferably provided on its outer face at a suitable point with a muff 80, which is secured to the section 20 in any desired manner and is always ready for use and not liable to be lost or misplaced, as would be the case of a detached mutt.
The foot-section 5O is preferably provided on its exterior with a loop 51, made of any desired material, which is designed as a means for hanging the robe up when not in use. This robe may be made of any desired size to accommodate one person or more than one, as desired. The form shown is made to accommodate a single person.
I claim as my invent-ion- A lap-robe forming a bag open at its upper end to receive the lower limbs and comprising a lap-section, an under section, a foot-section, having its opposite edges permanently connected to the lower edges of the lap and under sections, and side sections having their lower edges permanently connected to the ends of the foot-section and their side edges permanently connected respectively to the side edges of the lap and under sections, the latter being narrowed and extended beyond the side sections to form a seat-flapand the lap-section being narrowed and. extended at its upper end to form a-chest-protecting flap, substantially as described.
