To a whom it rncty concern:

Be it known that I, MxUn E. Lrxnwnx- VER, a citizen of the United States, residing at South English, in the county of Keokuk, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Forehead and Ear Protectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention has relation to wearing-apparel for the head and ears.

It is the object of the invention to provide a band for the forehead and ears that will keep the same warm; that may be worn 'without interfering with the hat, it being independent thereof; that may be quickly put on and taken off that will adjust itself with nicety to the head and ears, and that will be simple and economic of construction.

The nature of the invention has been so far indicated in the foregoing statement as not to call for iteration at this time and place; but having reference to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specification, the invention will be described in detail and then ointed out with particularity in the subj omed claim.

Of the said drawings, Figure 1 is a completely-developed or flatwise view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.

The same figures of reference designate the same parts or features, as the case may be, wherever they occur.

The article, as before stated, is designed to keep Warm the forehead and cars. It is frequently desirable to wear the hat on the head with the brim in front standing well up. With the hat in this position the forehead is exposed to a considerable extent, and in severely cold weather this is quite uncomfortable and puts the forehead in danger of being frost-bitten. Even when the hat is well down in front of the forehead, in quarters where the weather is very cold that part of the head suffers. Moreover, the ears require careful covering to keep them from being seriously harmed by frost. It is to protect these two parts of the head that led to the contrivance of the present invention.

The forehead-band 5 may be composed of any material that is adapted to shut in warmth-such, for instance, as jersey cloth, which may or may not be doubledor it may be composed of a single thickness of jersey cloth lined with a fabric of a different kind.

The ear tabs or coverings 6 are preferably made out of the same material as the forehead-band and integral therewith, though they might be separately constructed and sewed on the band 5. The tabs (3 are made large enough to fully cover and protect the ears against frost and cold and to the lower edges, which may be rounded, have one or two lengths of tape sewed to them, which tapes are designed to be tied or fastened under the wearers chin to keep the tabs down in place. The said ear-tab fastenings may be elastic, so as not to bind the tabs down too rigidly or make the fastenings uncomfortable under the chin.

7 designates a button, and 8 a loop of elastic material, which are sewed on the rear ends of the band 5 to button it in place on the head. By adapting the button to engage an elastic loop in fastening the band around the head it becomes self-adjustable, so that it may fit comfortably and be suited to heads of different size.

The band 5 is made broad enough to cover the forehead from the eyebrows up to where it is protected by the hat and hair on the head.

While my improved article of apparel is exceedingly simple in construction, it is ellicient in the highest degree for the purposes for which it is intended and keeps the forehead and ears without being in any respect in'the way of other articles of wear and muffles a part of the head and cars by means and in a manner that, so far as my experience goes, is not done as efliciently by any other device.

\Vhat is claimed as the invention is A forehead and ear protector comprising a substantially straight band of soft and thick material adapted to shut in warmth, a button on one end and an elastic loop on the other to fasten it on the head and render it selfadjustable therearound, ear-tabs integrally connected with the lower edge of the forehead-band, elastic fastenings attached to the lower edges of the ear-tabs and adapted to be tied together under the chin of the wearer.
