This invention -relates "to that class of ripparel adapted to afford complete protection for the head, face, throat, neck and chest and is particularly adapted for winterwear.
The object of the invention is to afford a cap of pleasing appearance adapted to be worn as sucliartic es of appa-rel usually are during ordinary weather, and so constructed as to afford protection for the 'entire head,
including the face and valso the'neckv and Vside elevation, showing .knit
chest, when desired.
It. is an object ofthe invention also to afford an exceedingly simple construction of the class described, capable' of almostl instantaneous conversion of form to protect the back of the head, neck and chest', leaving the face exposed, or to protect the face either with or without the protection afforded to the back of the head, neck and chest.
The invent-ion consists in the matters here` inafter described and more fully pointed out and defined inthe appended claims.
In the drawings: Figure l is a side eleva.- tion of a cap embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a central section thereof, taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar section showing the mufer and face vand head protectorturned inwardly. Fig. .4 is a view in the ldevice in use to protect the head, face, neck and chest. Fig. 5 is a front elevation thereof.
As shown in the drawings: 1, indicatesithe cap, which is illustrated as constructed of or crocheted fabric, though obviously any suitable material may be employed. Secured around the margin or bottom of the cap and preferably integrally and continuously therewith, is the. back fold 2, adapted to turn down around the back of the head and neck. Said back fold extends forwardly approximately to the temples of the wearer on each side of the cap and at its forward extremities is integrally or otherwise conl Specification ofLetterslateiit.`

are engaged in overlapped relation2 as shown in Figs. 1 andQ.' Asshown inFig. 3, said at the apex and said protector 2, at the back of the head and neck and the mutiler aprons 3, may be turned inwardly and engaged on button 4, is on the'innen side of the crown* l 7o said button in overlapped relation within v the crown of the cap, if desired: Y
Above the normal bottom 'ofthe cap at the front side is provided aslot 5,as s hown in Fig.' 2,'and integrally or'otherwisesecured around the normal bottom ofthe cap' j is a face protector 6. This, as shown, ap-
pears substantially of the width' of the protector 2, for the back of 'tliehead when folded upwardly on the cap, as shown in Fig; 1, buttlie width thereof together with the width of fabric or material between the slot 5, in the front of the ca and the folding line at the bottom of tie cap is suiiiciently wide to cover substantially the entire face,
The operation is as a cap only, the aprons' are turned upwardly on the cap, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or in Fig. 3, and the secured at the crown of the cap on the button 4, while 'thehead protector 2, and face protector 6, afford an ornamental roll about the cap. When so adjusted, the view aper.- ture in the front of the cap is entirely covered by the upwardly turned face protector,`
the ends of which are secured in place by means of a button 7, secured on each side the as shown iii Figs. 4 and 5', when' folded downwardly.
is desired to make'use of the facev follows: When used as headprotector and muffler pieces 3, connected with the cap, are
ioo v The face protector having been released at its ends-from the button 7, is turned downwardly, as shown in Fig. 4., This, in many instances, will be sufficient to afford the desired protection and warmth, butfshould it be desired to protect the back ofthehead a for ornament or otherwise, 4limiting the patent on this I andneckl and to utilize the muffler, the ends of the mutler are released from the.button 4, at theA crown' of the cap andare'turned outwardly and downwar ly, .as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, and secured by means of a button 8, which is attached to one of the apron pieces and secured beneath-the chin [illustrated in Figs. 1 or 3.'

and head protector down.
by means of one of the apron pieces. When in this position, the head protector 2, covers the back of the head .and neck. The muffler aprons extend around the neck, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, wholly covering the neck and extend well down upon the chest, as is usual :Although the knitted or crocheted-constructlon l possesses many featuresof advantage I do not purpose application to a knitted or. crocheted construction, as II am y' well'awarethat anysuitable material may be employed without departing from the principles of this invention.
I claim as my invention:
1. A cap comprising a protector secured A around 'the bottom thereof to cover the back of the head and neck, muiieraprons or tabs secured at the forward ends of said protec-l tor and 'adapted to extend upwardly to over-l crown of the cap, a-
lapped relation at the button centrally p'ositioned atthe crown of tom of the cap. position, as
' l the cap above the the cap for engaging said muiler tabs or aprons in place a face protector or mask secured around the front of the cap, said cap having an aperture above the face rotector.
2. A device of the class describe embracing a cap, a downfoldable roll at the back and sides thereof affording a protector to -cover the back of the head and neck, muiiler aprons or tabs secured at the forward ends of said fold on each side the cap and when not in use foldingupwardl to overlapped relation over the crown of 4t e cap, a button centrally positioned at the crown of the cap for engaging said tabs or aprons in place, a face protector forming a continuation of the roll afforded by the first named protector and adapted to fold downwardly over the face, said cap having a view aperture or slot therethrough at the 4front thereof and well above the normal folding line for the bot- 3. A cap, a protector flap extending down fro-m the fore part thereof adapted to be folded upward on the cap, means for retaining said ap in folded position,'a second protector flap extending, down from the rear part of the cap adapted to be folded u ward on the cap, relatively long wide tags interjacent the said flaps and interwoven with one of the same and the bottom of the cap, and a View aperture in the forepart of protector flap.
