Description

GERGE W. KING, OF OSWEGQ, NEW YORK-ASSIGNOR vFOR CNE-THIRD F HS RIGHT T0 A. l. GRANT.
Letters Patent N 105,2
dated July 12, 1870.
The Schedule reerec to in these Letten; Patent and making To all to whom 'if may concern s Be it remembered that I, GEORGE W.' Kino, of the city aud'eounty of Oswego, in the Stat e of New York, have invented a new and improved Portable Folding-Seat and Pocket-"hang and, I do hereby declare that the bllowing is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying' drawing@r and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature ofmy invention consists of' a center shaft or cylinder, which holds and supports 'the legs and arms, and along which, when not in use, they respectively fold, occupying hut little space. This cyl'- indor is marked letter A, and has a holc made in its upper end for a s l.t or pin of round iron, which is 'inode fast to the .-evolving cap, lettered B. Around this oar oi' round iron is a groove, into which a screw is inserted from the ci c, allowing the cap to rcvolve, but holding it i setting out.
Three or four arms can oensed, and the same nurnber of legs.
The shape of the seat, lettered H, depends upon the number of arms, being either three-cornered or a parallelogram.
Slots or mortiscs arc made in cap B for the arms, secured by bolts or rivets, forming a hinge, with a shoulder at the end of each,4 resting on a corresponding out or nick in the cap, preventing the arm extending beyond a given angle. l
'.Lhc arms vary in length, according 'to the desired height intended to b e given the seat. `These arms are lettered O. l y
At the upper end of each arm is au eye or hole, into which a. hook, lettered l, and attached to the seat,
slides, holding it firm.
At the lower end of they cylinder, and made permapassing from one leg to another.
part of tlm same manent,` there is another cap, lettered D, similar in shape and construction to the cap B, both of which are shapedso as to allow the arms and legs, when folded, to fold in them.
The legs are lettered E, and are secured to cap D in same way as the arms.
The lower side of each leg, near its upper extremity, has a shoulder resting against a place prepared in thc cap mortise, to prevent its extending beyond a given angle.
The legs also can be held firm by hooks or chains Upon the cylinder is an adjustable thimble, lettered F, movable up and down, and made to revolve around the same, with projecting ends or shoulders, against which the upper part of the legs, passing through the mortise in cap D, rests, preventing the legs from spreading out.
On the lower side of said cap is a projection, against which the inside of-the legs strike, preventing their sliding inward.
At the bottom of each leg is a circular shoe, to prevent the same running into soft substances.
What I claim as my invention, and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination ofthe center shaft or cylinder A,
cap B, arms U, seat H, cap D, legs E, and adjustable thimble F, provided with projecting ends or shoulders, all constructed and arranged to operate as herein provided and for the purpose specified.
