Letters Patent No. 104,041, dated June 7, 1870..
IMPROVED MOVABLE STORE-SHELVING.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of thc'sam To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE Koon and Win LIAM KOCH, of Franklin, in the county of V enango "and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Store-Shelving; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operatiori of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a front View of my improved shelving.
Figure 2 is a vertical cross-section.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of double case.
Figure 4 is a front View of single case, with door.
Our invention relates to portable store-shelving, and
consists in certain improvements upon our store-shelving for which Letters Patent, No. 92,731, were issued July 20, 1869, whereby the cases are rendered easily applicable to any store, and are designed to pass out at the main entrance, instead of through an opening formed in the wall of the store for the purpose.
7 The letter A. of the drawing designates the case-of shelving, which is arranged internally in such a man ner as may best conform to the purposes for which it is to be used.
B B' represent casters, pivoted to the bottom of the case, and designed to turn freely upon the pivot, thereby allowing the case to berolled in any direction with facility over the floor, thus entirely dispensing with a floor-track.
O designates a long-leaved hinge, whereby the door of the single caseis attached to the central part of the end wall thereof, in such a manner that, when the case is in position, the door may be folded out of sight behind the case.
When the double case is employed, this door is not used, as the two cases which form it are hinged together at the end in such a manner that, when they are removed from their position, they can be folded together, and each one will form a cover for the other.
D represents a single strip, attached to the wall of the store, and designed to form a catch, behind which the end of the bolt 0, attached to the upper part of each case, may project up, thereby securing the case in a vertical position when in place.
Should it be desired to remove the shelving from the walls, the bolts are drawn down, and each case is run out into the middle of the store, closed, and passed out at the main entrance.
These improvements are deemed important from the fact that the shelving is thus made applicable to any store or apartment, without alteration or addition, with the exception of the single strip to hold the bolts of the cases.
The casters B B may be made removable, to the end that the cases may be, if occasion should require, used as packing-cases. Thus the goods therein may be transported, without rep-aching, to any distance.
1 \Vhat we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The movable store-shelving herein described, arranged with hinges, for connecting the sections, or separately, with cover, and provided with casters B,
capable of moving in any direction, and bolts 0, opcr- I
