CIGAR AND CIGARETTE HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VVEsLEY ARCHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar and Cigarette Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in cigar and cigarette holders and more particularly to a means for ejecting stumps therefrom, and my object is to provide a device of this character equipped with a means whereby the stump may be gradually ejected so that the full length of the smoke may be obtained.

A further object of the invention resides in providing a holder having a slidable band encircling the same, which band is provided with a stem extending within said holder, and a still further object of the invention resides in providing a slot in the holder through which said stem extends, whereby the movement of the band carrying said stem may be limited.

Still another object of the invention resides in providing an additional band over which the aforesaid band is mounted, and a still further object resides in providing a head member for the stem, which head memher is removable.

A still further object resides in providing a device which is extremely simple in construction, thereby readily and cheaply manufactored, and one which is very eflicient and useful in operation.

lVith these and other objects in View, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder showing my improved stump ejecting means applied thereon. Fig. 2 is a transverse section therethrough. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section therethrough. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective of the outer sleeve or band member with the head for the stem thereof removed, and, Fig. 5 is a similar view of the head member.

throughout the several views and in which 1 indicates a holder of the usual or any preferred type used for cigars and cigarettes, the body portion 2 of which is substantially circular in cross section and provided with a short spiral slot 3, and mounted on said body portion so as to fit snugly and tightly therearound, is a metallic band or sleeve 4, said band or sleeve being also provided with a slot alining with the spiral slot 3 of the body portion of said holder. An additional sleeve or band 5 is slidably mounted over the band 4 so as to snugly fit the same, and said sleeve 5 has engaged therewith, in any desired manner, one end of an L-shaped stem 6, the shorter arm of said stem being extended through the slot 3 of the body portion of the holder, while the longer arm thereof extends longitudinally within said body portion.

As stated, the sleeve 5 is slidably movable on the band 4, and it will be appreciated that since the stem 6 extends through the slot 3 in the body portion of the holder, the movement of said sleeve will be limited, but as said sleeve is moved forwardly and rearwardly of the holder, the stem 6 will be moved therewith, and a sleeve member 7 having a head 8 thereon, is adapted to be applied to the free end of said stem 6 to form a substantial head therefor. The stem is so arranged on the sleeve 5 as to extend substantially to the outer end of the body portion 2 when said sleeve 5 is moved to its outermost position so that the sleeve member 7, which forms a removable head for the stem, has its head 8 substantially flush with the end of the holder.

In practice, the sleeve 5 is first forced on the body port-ion to its innermost position thereon, whereupon the cigar or cigarette may be readily inserted in the end of the holder to be smoked in the usual manner, and it will be seen that as the head member 8 of the removable head member on the stem 6 is of a diameter smaller than the inner diameter of the body portion of the holder, there will be no material obstruction to the draw, but said head is ada ted to retain the tar, nicotin and the like rom passing to the stem of the holder and entering the mouth of the smoker. The cigarette or cigar may be smoked until the same reaches the end of the holder,whereupon the sleeve5 may be partially turned and forced outwardly to cause the stem 6 with the head thereon to force the stump outwardly, and if this movement of the sleeve 5 is done gradually. one may obtain full benefit of the complete length of the smoke, and when said sleeve is moved to its outermost position, the stump will be completely ejected from the holder. hen in its outermost position, the head 8 may be grasped and removed from the stem (3 in order to remove the products that are accumulated thereon, and the inner diameter of the holder may also be cleaned, if desired, and the sleeve 5 may then be forced to its innermost position, whereupon another cigar or cigarette may be inserted in the holder.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that l have provided an improved cigarette holder with means thereon for the ejection of the stump, whereby the smoker may obtain full benefit of the length of the smoke.

It will further be seen that I have provided a slot in the body portion of the holder through which extends a stem carried by an outer band slidably mounted on said holder, whereby said band may be limited in its movement and said stem adapted to contact with the stump to gradually or completely eject the same, as desired.

It will further be seen that I have provided a head on said stem which is proportioned to allow a perfect draw through the holder and at the same time is adapted to receive thereon, the various products from the smoke which, under ordinary conditions. enter the stem of the holder and the mouth of the smoker.

It will further be seen that this head member comprises a sleeve which is snugly mounted on the end of the stem and thereby removed when desired, so that the products which are adapted to accumulate thereon. may be readily removed and the inner portion of the holder cleaned, if desired.

It will still further be seen that the device is of extremely simple construction, whereby the same may be readily and cheaply manufactured, and one which is very effective and useful in operation.

While I have particularly described the features of the preferred form of my invention, it will be readily understood that the same is capable of various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction Without sacrificing the principles or departing from the spirit of the invention, whatsoever.

The combination with a cigar and cigarette holder having a slot therein; of a sleeve encircling said holder and slidably mounted thereon, a stem extending longitudinally within said holder, said stem having the inner end thereof bent through said slot and engaged with said sleeve, and a removable head for the outer end of said stem.

2. The combination with a cigar and cigarette holder having a slot in the body portion thereof; of a band mounted on said body portion and having a slot therein in alinement with the aforesaid slot, a sleeve member encircling said band, movably mounted thereon, and a. stem extending longitudinally within said holder, the inner end of said stem being bent through the slots in said holder and band and engaged with said sleeve.

The combination with a cigar and cigarette holder having a slot in the body portion thereof; of a band mounted on said body portion and having a slot therein in alinement with the aforesaid slot, a sleeve member encircling said band movably mounted thereon, a stem extending longitudinally within said holder, the inner end of said stem being bent through the slots in said holder and band and engaged with said sleeve, and a removable head member for the free end of said stem.

In a device of the class described, the coi'nbination with a holder having a spiral slot therein: of a metallic band mounted thereon and provided with a slot alining with the slot of said holder, a sleeve member slidably mounted on said band, a stem carried by said sleeve member and extending laterally through the slots in said band and holder, said stem being bent to extend longitudinally through said holder, and a removable cap member for the free end of said stem, comprising a sleeve member fitting said stem and a circular head portion on the free end of said sleeve, the outer face of said circular head member being adapted to be disposed substantially flush with the outer peripheral edge of the holder proper.
