Be it known that L'HERBERT R. MGGLIN- rong, 'a citizm of the United States, residing-at El -Paso,in the county-of El :Paso and State of l was, have inyented a new and useful Gigar or Gigarette :Holder, of which the following we specification.
The invention melates :to a cigar or :cigaretteiholder, and more especially to \the class of stub ejecting-cigar -or cigarette holders or mouth pieces.
The primary object of=the invention is the provision of a-holder or-mouth piece-ofthis character, wherein the stub of a cigar or cigarette can be readily and easily ejected therefrom to avoid the choking of said holder or mouth piece, and also eliminating the trouble of removing the stub of the cigar orcigarette "from said holder or mouth piece by the use of any handy instrument, as is usually required.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a holder or mouth piece of this -&aracter, whereinthesejecting device can be madily removed from the stock of said :holder or 'mouth piece, so that either the latter or the device can be readily cleaned :with 'despatch, whereby the said holder or month piece will be rendered sanitary, the device being of a eculiar construction -to avoid the accumulation of nicotin or tobacco within the holder or mouth-piece, and thus eliminatingany possibilitymf the latter becoming foul or impractical during continued as use thereof.
A further object ofthe invention is the provision of a holder or mouth :pieee of this iisive trouble on the part ofthe user character, which possessessimphcity in construction, i thoroughlyreliable and eflicient in its purpose, easily operated to eject a cigar or cigarette therefrom without excesand also one which is inexpensive in manu acture.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in :the features of constmetion, combination and arrangement of parts, as will behereinafter fully described, illustrated in :the' accompanying drawing, summed out in the olaims hereunto appe V 1n the accompanying drawin Eign -11:i .a.-gid .elevationo :a holder orv mouth pieeeconstructed in'accordanee with the invention, showing a cigarette held therein.
iFig. 2 is an enlarged horizontal sectional View, taken longitudinally =through "the holder or mouth piece, andshowinfg full lines the normal-positionrof therejecting device and by dotted lines the adjusted position -for the removal of Ia cigar =or -.ciganette.
Fig. 3 is an'enlarged sectional mew onp the line 33 of Fig. 1, looking in .the-direc tion of the arrow.
Fig. 4 isa fragmentary top, plan view of the holder or mouth piece.
. Fig. 5 is a perspective view'of the-ejectdevice removed with the actuating pin or dog detached therefrom.
Similar reference characters ind-inc te like parts throughout all of the views in the drawing.
Referring .to the drawing .in -.detail, A designates generally the holder or mouth piece, which is preferably of substantially oval formation, ncross section throughout its length, formed with acigarette or-cigar receiving-end 10, havinga-socket 11 .for accommodating thmeigar or cigarette, while the opposite end .forms a .mouth tip 32, through which 0 ns'theucentral draft bore 13-extendingin-t e directionof-andqpening into the socket 11 as -usual, the innerend or the socket 11 being tapered toward the tip end so thctther-stab of the-cigarette or cigar will be firmlyheld in "the' soekct. 11 when forced thereinto-tobe carried by the :holder -or mouth piece for the smoking :thereof.
lilies-holder ormouth pieeethisimede from any suitable stock I preferably ember, al-
though it :may be madez-trom a composition outer end nortion bent at right angles to form an ejecting prong 1'7, which extends into the socket 11 crosswise thereof to engage with the butt end of the cigarette or cigar vrhen heid in the holder or mouth piece, so that on movement of the rod 18 in one direction the hutt end of said cigar or cigarette Wili he ejected from the socket 11, when it has been smoked and the greater portion thereof 'consuined.
The opposite or inner end portion of the rod 16 carries a "finger stub or pin 18, which is formed with a reolucecl threaderi portion 19 adapted to he detachably tapped into the rod 16 near the inner end thereof, and this 'pin or stuh 18 WOIkS in the slot 15, which is of a Width to irictionaliy engage therewith to avoid the free sliriing of the pin or stub therein. The stub or pin 18 projects ontwarclly from the siot 15 and is formed with a head 20 to permit the convenient engageinent thereof hy the finger of the user of the cigarette or holder, so that the ejecting? ievice can he readily manipulated in the direction requiredfor ejectin the stub of a cigarette or cigar from Within the socket 11 in the holder or mouth piece.
Normaiiy, the reel 10 of the ejecting device is moved inwardly to the position shown by fnil lines in Fig. 2 of the drawing so that the stub end of a cigarette or cigar an he readily inserted in the socket 11 for the smoking thereoii. Now, when it is clesireil to eject the stub of the cigarette or cigar the rod 16 is shifted, so that the ejecting rievice will assume the position shown by Slotted lines in Fig 2 oi? the drawing on this outward movement of said device th 1'? will actnpon the stub of the c cigarette; forcing ifroin the socket in the stock oi the holder or mouth piece,
and thereby ejectiigsaicl stuh tln-zreiroro The guide passage 14: corresponds with the cross sectionai diameter of the reel 1 so that the latter iviii snugly fit Within the passage i l for siight frictional engagement beta/"sen the wall oi"? the @assage anti said real, thereby preventing the ioose Working of the rod in the passage or the free sliding of the ejecting device Within the stool oi the hoieier or mouth piece.
The ejecting clevice can he readily nioverl by hand to its normal position or to the position for ejecting the stub oi the cigar or cigarette irons the holder or mouth piece in a manner as hereinhefore set forth.
The stop or pin 18 can he readily detached from the rod 1-8,so that the same can he drawn out of the passage 1 thron 'h the socket 11 for the removal of the e ecting device from the holder or mouth piece, so that both the latter and the ejecting device can he readily cleaned for sanitary purposes yet it is to he uncierstoori that when the ejectiece the same can he cleansed when the ocasion requires.
"On the rod 16 next to the ejecting prong 1? is a cone-shaped valve or stopper 21 which is adapted to engage in a seat 22 correspondingly shaped thereto and formed at the outer end of the passage 14: so that when the rod is retracted Within said passage, the valve or stopper 21 closes the passage 14% to completely ciose the same to avoid affecting the draft through the smoke bore 13 when the hoider is in use for smoking the cigar or cigarette.
It is to be understooclthat thehoider or mouth piece in lieu of oval formation in cross section throughout its length may he of any desired shape or configuration.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction and manner of operation of? the invention will he clearly understoorl, and therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.
