This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a rosewood pipe.

The invention has for an object the construction of an article as mentioned which is characterized by the fact that it includes a rosewood member formed with a passage for the smoke and acting to add its fragrance to the smoke.

It is proposed herein to hollow out the stem of the pipe and to arrange the rosewood member therein in a manner to cause the smoke to pass through it.

Still further the invention contemplates an arrangement whereby the rosewood member in the pipe stem may be moved to various positions arranged to control the passage of the smoke through it to cause the smoke to contact with different lengths thereof.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a pipe constructed according to this invention.

Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the tubing connecting the pipe stem and the mouthpiece.

In Figs. 1 and 2 the invention has been disclosed. Therein is shown a pipe which comprises a tobacco bowl portion I4 connected with a stem portion M which in turn is connected with a mouthpiece portion I 4. These parts may be made of standard woods and composition materials. The stem portion M is formed with a large bore in which an aluminum or other metallic tube I5 is mounted. A removable plug l6 engages through the end portion of the pipe and communicates with the open end of the tube l5. An intermediate portion of the tube I5 is connected by a smoke passage l 1 with the pipe bowl- Another tubular member I8 is mounted within the stem portion I4 and has a projecting end portion which engages into the end of the mouthpiece l4 for detachably supporting these parts.

A rosewood member ll which is formed with a smoke passage l I a is positioned within the stem and mouthpiece of the pipe and is adapted to act upon the smoke to add its fragrance to the smoke. This rosewood member is formed with a slot l9 which is extended inwards from its inner end and which is cooperative with a stationary pin 20 projecting from the tube I 5 for holding the rosewood member against turning.

It is possible to separate the mouthpiece from the stem portion and then to move the rosewood member H" inwards to any desired amount, as for example to the position indicated by the dot and dash lines in Fig. 1. In such various positions the passage lTwill at all times be in communication with the slot I9 so that there is a direct passage of smoke from the pipe bowl through the stem of the pipe. But in different positions of the rosewood member I I" the smoke will contact with different lengths thereof and so different amounts of'fiavor and aroma will be transferred to the smoke.

As shown in the full lines in Fig. 1 the full value of aroma from be transferred. In the positions indicated bythe dot and dash lines the smoke will be caused to the rosewood member will r travel through approximately three-quarters of the length of the rosewood member and hence a different amount of fragrance will be transferred to the smoke. The plug 5 may be opened when desired to assist in positioning the rosewood member II" by forcing a pencil or similar instrument into this end-and against the end of the member ll".

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myslf to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications com: ing within the scope of the invention as defined in the' appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:-

1. A device of the class described comprising a pipe having a tobacco bowl portion connected with a stem portion in turn connected with a mouthpiece, and a rosewood member formed with a passage for the smoke stem portion and. acting to add'its fragrance to the smoke, said rosewoodmember being adjustable to different positions to affect the degree 'of fragrance transferred, said rosewood member being formed with aslot extended in, from one end, and. a pin engaging said slot to prevent turnand positioned in said ing of the rosewood member, said member being movable to differentpositions with relation to said pipe bowl to control the length of the passage of the smoke through the rosewood member.

2. A device of the class described comprising a pipe having a tobacco bowl portion connected with a stem portion in turn connected with a mouthpiece, and a rosewood member formed with a passage for the smoke and positioned in said stem portion and acting to add its fragrance to the smoke, said rosewood member being adjustable to difierent positions to affect the degree of fragrance transferred, said rosewood member being formed with a slot extended in from one end, and a pin engaging said slot to prevent turning of the rosewood member, said member being movable to difierent positions with relation to said pipe bowl to control the length of the passage of the smoke through the rosewood member, a tubular member mounted within the stem portion of said pipe and through which said rosewood member passes, and a plug engaged into one end of the pipe for closing the open end of said tubular'member, an auxiliary tubular member being engaged into the other end of said tubular member and extending into a portion of said mouthpiece for connecting the mouthpiece and the stem.
