Description

May 4, 1948- A. F. WALTON QIGARETTE HOLDER AND EXTINGUISHER Filed 001:. 15, 1946 ADOLPHUS F. WALTON,
Patented May 4,
Adolphus F. Walton, Washtng ton, DwQ. I Araligai O b 1 94= {Seria1-N nae whims. (cut -1'15) My invention relates to smokers? articles and "i more particularly to generate-newer.
The object of my invention is to provide a,
c ga tte l r een isiln of a body i m a bore a pte to ceive a d hoi a cl ra provided at its rear end with axslightls'y frustoably a wad of cotton or thelilie, and a removable mouth-piece.
Another object of my invention is to provide a cigarette holder of the character indicated above having wire guideways attached thereto and extending forwardly therefrom to receive a cigarette extinguishing cap slidably between them, adapted to be pushed onto the lit end of a cigarette to extinguish the same.
Other objects of my invention may appear in the following specification describing my invention, with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention.
It is however, to be understood that my invention is not to be limited or restrictedto the exact construction and combination of parts described in the specification and shown in the drawing, but that such changes and modifications can be made, which fall within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational side view of a cigarette holder according to my invention, the extinguisher cap being shown in full lines in inoperative position, a cigarette and the extinguisher cap in operative position being shown in broken lines.
Figure 2 is a, top plan view of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3--3 in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view in Figure 1.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, the cigarette holder forming the subject matter of my invention has a cylindrical body in provided on its inner or forward end with a bore I l adapted to receive a cigarette l2. On its rear end the body I!) has a frusto-conical counterbore l2, the bigger diameter of which is at the rear end of the counterbore, which forms a shoulder l3 with the bore H. A wad of cotton M, or the like is located in the inner end of the counterbore l2 abutting the shoulder IS.
A mouthpiece l5 has on its inner end a frustoconical portion 16 slidably fitting into the frustoconical counterbore l2. The frusto-conical mouthpiece portion l6 forms a shoulder 11 with n i-e ni rber dar t 'df'm est xchan etaken on line 4-4 the forward end of themejin portion of the mouth: n f an neeutsm qianieiter'ef the forward end oftl'ie' Khalil, Portion of the lmouthpieceis q a ityihe'outs de' fi fi' fl 9f the cylindrical ..l 5 is provided with a narrow bore l"8','the "W 11 end whereof is flared as clearly shown at"!!! in Figure'B.
An elongated U-shaped wire guide 20 has two comparatively long shanks 2| connected with each other on their forward ends by a cross piece 22.
The rearward portions of the shanks 2| are embedded in longitudinal grooves arranged di- 2 ametrically opposite to each other in the circumferential surface of the body Iii and the ends of these rearward shank portions are bent inwardly at right angles and are embedded in the rear surface of the body Ill as shown at 23.
A clamp ring N is firmly placed around the cylindrical body I0 to hold the shanks 2| of the elongated U-shaped wire guide in place in the longitudinal grooves in the circumferential surface of the body ID,
A cylindrical extinguisher cap 25 is slidably arranged between the two shanks 2|, which are located in longitudinal grooves provided diametrically oposite to each other in the circumferential surface of the extinguisher cap 25.
This cap is closed on its front end and the opening of its hollow end 26 is large enough to receive the forward end of a cigarette I2 therein, which may be inserted in the forward end of the bore H in the cylindrical body I0.
When a cigarette is being smoked through the cigarette holder described above, the nicotine and moisture is detained and absorbed in the cotton wad It. To remove this wad and replace it with a clean one the mouthpiece I5 is removed from the cylindrical body It. By using a, wad M the bore iii in the mouthpiece I5 is kept clean and fresh.
When it is desired to extinguish a cigarette before discarding it, the cap 25 is slidingly moved into contact with the burning end of the cigarette, so that this end is arranged inside the hollow 28 in the cap 25 and the burning cigar rette is extinguished bylack of oxygen.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. The combination with a cigarette holder including an elongated body having a pair of oppositely-disposed longitudinal grooves in the outer surface thereof; of a cigarette extinguisher comprising a U-shaped wire guide having two comparatively long shanks and a cross-piece connecting the front ends of the shanks, the shanks being arranged in said longitudinal grooves provided in said body, an extinguisher cap slidably arranged between the shanks and having a rearwardly open hollow adapted to receive the outer end of a cigarette mounted in the holder, the rearward ends of the shanks being bent inwardly at right angles and being embeddedin the rear end surface of'the body, and a clamp ring surrounding said body and said shanks to secure said shanks in the grooves 2. The combination with a cigarette holder including an elongated body having a. pair of oppositely-disposed longitudinal grooves in the outter surface thereof, of a cigarette extinguisher comprising a U-shaped wire guide having two- 1 long shanks and a cross-piece conthe shanks comparatively necting the front ends of the shanks, being arranged in said longitudinal grooves provided in the surface of said body, an extinguisher cap slida bly arranged between said shanks and having a rearwardly open hollow adapted to receive the outer end of a cigarette mounted in the holder, and a clamp ring surrounding said body and said shanks to secure the shanks in the longitudinal grooves in said body.
in the body.
3. The combination with a cigarette holder including an elongated body having a pair of oppositely-disposed longitudinal grooves in the outer surface thereof, of a cigarette extinguisher comprising a U-shaped wire guide having two comparatively long shanks and a cross-piece connecting the front ends of the shanks, the shanks being received in said longitudinal grooves of said. body, andian extinguisher cap slidably arranged betweenrthe shanks and having a rearwardly open hollow adapted to receive the outer ,end of a cigarette mounted in said holder, said extinguisher cap having oppositely-disposed I longitudinal grooves in its circumferential surface to, receive said shanks slidably therein.
