CIGAR CUTTER. APPLICATION FILED JULY 26.1920.

CIGAR CUTTER.
Application filed July 26,
To aZZ whom 11!; may concern:
Be it known that we, Eowaun B. Finn!) and Airman F. HUNT, citizens of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county f Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cigar cutters, and has for its object to provide a mechanism which will open the end of a cigar without mutilating it.
Another object is to provide a cutter which is simple in construction and therefore may be manufactured very inexpensively.
These objects are accomplished by the particular construction and arrangement *of parts, shown in the accompanying drawing, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of our innn'oved ci ar cutter.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but with the cutter telescoped. I
Figure 3 is a section taken on the line of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an enlarged view similar to Figure 3 with a portion of the cutter broken away to show the cleaning pin.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a cylindrical body, the upper portion of which is slightly enlarged to accommodate a conical recess .2, which is adapted to receive the end of the cigar. A. central bore 3 extends the length of the body 1 into the recess 2.
A cylindrical knife 4 reciprocates in the bore 3, and has a head 5 secured to the end thereof. A pin 6 secured in the lower portion of the body 1 reciprocates in longitudinal slots 7 arranged diametrically opposite each other in the knife 4. A cleaning plunger 8 is secured within the knife 4-. by the pin 6, one end of said pin extending to the inner end of recess 2. It will be seen that the plunger 8 remains stationary while the knife 4 moves past it. The pin 6 also serves as a stop for the knife 4, in limiting its movement in both directions. The limit 1920. Serial No. 398,998.
of movement of the knife 4 is the length of the slot 7.
A ring 9 is secured to the head 5, so that the cutter may be conveniently attached to a watch chain or a key ring.
The operation of our invention is as follows:
The knife t is withdrawn to the position shown in Figure 11., and tie cigar end is in serted in the recess The knife is now forced into the cigar to the position shown in Figure 2,, which cuts a round plug from the cigar and opens it. The cigar is now removed after which the knife 4: is withdrawn, the plunger 8 ejecting; the plug of tobacco from the knife.
Having described our invention, we claim 1. A cigar cutter comprising a body having a central longitudinal bore and a conical recess in one end thereof, a tubular knife reeiprocatively mounted in said bore, said knife being provided with longitudinal slots arranged diametrically opposite each other, a statioinnfy pin in said knife, one end of said pin extendin to the inner end of said recess, a pin extending through the other end of said pin and through said slots and secured in said body, the ends of said slots engaging said pin to limit the movement of said knife in both directions.
A cigar cutter comprising a body haw in a central longitudinal bore and a conical. recess in one end thereof, a tubular knife recunocatively wanted in said bore, said knife being provided with lon tudinal slots arranged diametrically opposite each other, a stationary pin in said knife, one end of said pin extending to the inner of said recess, a pin extending), through the other end of said pin and through said slots and secured in said body, the ends of said slot-s engaging said pin to limit the movement of said knife in both directions, a head on the outer end of said knife, and a ring connected to said head.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures.
EDWARD 13. FIELD. ATLEE F. HUNT.
