T. RAJE CIGARETTE HOLDER Fj led Sept. 22, 1920 71 11711111111! IIIIIIQII," I
Patented Apr. 10, 1923.
'rnon new, or LOS enemas, CALIFORNIA.
CIGARETTE HOLDER.
AppIication filed. September 22, 1920. Serial no. 412,064.
To all whom it may cohcern:
Be it known that I, THOR RAJE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Los An eles, in the county of Los Angeles, State 5 of alifornia, have invented new and useful Improvements. in Cigarette. Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to cigarette holders of the charactenshown in my pending ap- 1 plication for patent, filed May 19, 1920, Serial No. 384,757, embodying means for ejecting the cigarettes from the holder and means for holding an absorbent medicated.
plug, or core in the body of the holder. 5 The object of my present improvements is to provide a form of holder in which the stem is slidably disposed in the body and carries a bushing of cork or the like for packing the jointbetween the holder and- 20 stem and for providing ample space to hold the stem in position.
Another object is to provide an improved formof-plug holder attached to the inner being employed throughout the specification 855 and in the several views of the drawing for indicatin the same parts.
Referring to said drawings: Fig. 1 is a lon 'tudinal section of my I holder showing a clgarette held therein and ct) the several parts in operative relation.
Fig. 2 is a view of the stem showing the v packing bushing on one endpthereof.
Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 1 on line 33. Fig. 4 is a section of the same on line M. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the combined plug holder and ejector held on the inner end of the stem.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a form'of convoluted plug of absorbent character at through which the smoke from theeigarette I is adapted to be-filtered.
Holder H has a main body portion 1 with a chamber 2 therein adapted to receive and hold a cigarette C at one end, and a reduced to portion an the other and for slidab l ceiving a stem Sh Ifhe said stem carries on its inner end 4 (which may or may not be sli htly reduced in size as shown in Fig. 1)
as eeve, or bushin 5 of cork or other suitable material whic may be preferably tall pered, as shown, to conform to the taper or curve of the bore of the body, so that when the stem is drawn backwardly in the holder the said sleeve will frictionally engage the wall of the holder and serve to hold the stem e5 firmly in position for use.
The innerend 4 of the stem also carries a combined plu holder and ejecting device E, as shown in igs. 1 and 5. One end of said member E has a split sleeve portion 6 W adapted to fric-tionally engage the portion 4: of the stem, and the other end thereof has a downwardly extending lip 7 connected with the sleeve portion 6 by means of a longitudinally disposed portion 8, the portions 6, 7e 7 and 8 being integrally formed of sheet metal. I
A plug P composed of a plurality of convolutions of absorbent material saturated with a suitable stiffening liquid, such asst sugar and water, for holding the convolutions together when the liquid is dry, is provided for insertion between the inner end of the stem and the lip 7 of ejector member E. Said plug when so treated will be rather as stiff and yet absorbent enough for the purpose of filterin the smoke from the cigarette, and the esignof member E is such that the plug will be held friction'ally in position and so that the same may be readily to removed for the purpose of cleaning the holder and its several parts, and for the additional purpose of substituting another plug when necessary.
The lip 7 of member E is adapted to enes gage the inner end of the cigarette C and when the cigarette is to be ejected from the holder the stem S may be forced inwardly in the holder H so that said lip will force the cigarette outwardly from the open end we of said holder.
It will be understood that all of the several parts of my improved device may be readily separated for anypur ose, the stem being removed from the hol er through the large open end and the plu removed from the member E andthe mem er E detached from position on the end of the stem.
.A head or other suitable element S ma be provided on the outer end of the stem 1%- for engagement with the end 3 of the holder so as to limit the movement of the stern in the holder, as shown inFig. 1.
What I'claim, is:
A cigarette holder, comprising a body open at both ends and having one end thereof reduced, astem slidably held in the reduced end of said body and having an enlargenient thereon for engaging the reduced end of said body for preventing the withdrawal of the stem therethrough, and a projection extending inwardly from said enlargement, the opposite end of said body being adapted to receive and hold a ciga rette, a member supported within said body and having a sleeve frictionally held on the inner end of said stem, and a lip spaoed therefrom for engagement with the inner end of the cigarette, whereby an absorbent element may beheld between said lip and the inner end of said stem for filtering the srnoke and for ejecting the cigarette; from sald body when sald stem is moved inwardly
