ENVE'LOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 8, 1911.
Patented Oct. 31, 1911.
Serial No. 619,845.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JozsEF KUBINYI, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Buford, in the county of Albany and State of lVyoming, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawmg.
This invention relates to safety envelops and the purpose of the invention is to provide an envelop that can be advantageously used by express companies and individuals in transmitting valuable matter without the possibility of the envelop being surreptitiously opened.
My invention aims to provide an envelop that cannot be tampered with without detection, the envelop being easily and quickly sealed, inexpensive to manufacture and efiicient for the purpose for which it is intended.
I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a plan of the envelop. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a detached flap adapted to form part of the envelop, and Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a detached staple adapted to form part of the envelop.
The reference numeral 1 denotes the body of an ordinary envelop having end flaps 2, a bottom flap 3 and a sealing flap 1.
5 denotes a metallic staple having the arms 6 thereof apertured or slotted, as at 7 This staple is mounted upon the back of the envelop against the flap 1 with the arms extending through the bottom flap 3, the contents of the envelop and the body 1.
8 denotes a flap having the ends thereof gummed or provided with adhesive material 9. Secured to the flap 8 upon the gummed side thereof is a strap 10, said strap being preferably gummed to adhere to the flap 8. The strap 10 retains a piece of flexible wire 12 in engagement with the flap 8, said wire having the ends thereof hook shaped, as at 12, to engage in the apertured arm 6.
13 denotes a block adhesively secured to the flap 8.
After the hook shaped ends 12 of the wire 11 have been placed in engagement with the arms of the staple 5, the ends of the flap 8 can be moistened and secured to the body 1 of the envelop. The block 13 is adapted to fit between the apertured arm 6, after the flap is secured to the envelop and retain the hook shaped ends of the wire in engagement with the staple.
The staple 5 and the wire 11 are made of metal, the block 13 of pasteboard and the remainder of the envelop of paper, paperoid or other durable material.
What I claim is The combination with an envelop, of a staple having apertured arms adapted to extend through the bottom and sealing flaps and the body of said envelop, a flap having gummed ends connected to the body of said envelop, a strap carried by the inner side of said flap, a wire held by said strap and having hook shaped ends adapted to engage in the apertured arms of said staple, and a block carried by the inner side of said flap and adapted to extend between the hook shaped ends of said wire, substantially as, and for the purpose herein described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
'JOZSEF KUBINYI.
