To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN HAY, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Carmel, in the county of Monterey and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed- VVarmers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to bed warmers and is designed to construct a bed warmer which will conduct the heat from a lamp or other heat generating apparatus to the bed, said heat generating apparatus being located away from the bed. It also contemplates the construction of a warmer which will be provided with a means whereby the lamp which generates the heat may be extinguished.

With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bed warmer constructed in accordance with the present invention, parts thereof being broken away; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View of the heat accumulator and conductor; Fig. 3 is an inside elevation of the cap located at the top of the fume and smoke conducting chimney; Fig. 4c is a fragmentary elevation of a portion of the outer casing of the heat accumulator, illustrating the catch securing said heat accumulator to the lamp; Fig. 5 is a perspective View of the lamp illustrating the lug adapted to cooperate with the catch illustrated in Fig. 4; Fig. 6 is a fragmentary view of the heat accumulator illustrating the intermediate catches; Fig. 7 is a top plan view of the lamp.

The bed warmer forming the subject-matter of the present invention comprises a spirit lamp having a series of oif-set lugs located on the upper surface thereof, one of said lugs being provided with recesses. A conical heat accumulator is provided with inwardly projecting extensions to engage said lugs, one of said catches being bent upon itself forming a spring handle located on the exterior of the outer portion of said accumulator, said spring handle being adapted to engage the recess formed in one of said lugs carried by the spirit lamp. The accumulator is formed in two sections the space between said sections forming a heat conductor which carries the heat to a flexible distributer adapted to be placed in or on a bed. The inner section of the distributer forms a conductor for the heat and fumes, and is provided at its upper extremity with a cap to which a tube extends through the instrumentality of which the flame of the spirit lamp may be extinguished.

Referring to the drawings, 10 indicates a spirit lamp having the burner 11 centrally located thereon. A series of upwardly oifset lugs 12 and 12 surround the burner 11, the lug 12 being provided with a depression or recess 13.

A conical outer casing 141 is carried by the lugs 12 and 12 and is provided with a se ries of downwardly and inwardly extending catches 15 and 15 at its lower edge, the catch 15 being bent upon itself and projected exteriorly under the lower edge of the casing 14:, forming a handle and spring catch member 16. It will clearly be seen from the foregoing that the catches 15 cooperate with the lugs 12 upon a slight rotation of the casing 141, while the catch 15 cooperates with the lug 12, the locking member 16 of the catch 15 engaging a recess 13 of the lug 12, thereby rigidly securing the conical casing 141 to the spirit lamp 10.

The conical outer casing 14: is provided with a right angular tubular casing 17 at its upper extremity to which is connected a flexible heat distributer 18 as hereinafter more fully described. The opening 19 pierces the upper side 'of the tubular extension 17 and provides a means whereby the chimney may extend to and beyond said conical outer casing 14;.

A conical chimney 20 is carried within the casing 1d and is provided at its upper extremity with a tubular member 21 which extends through the opening 19 of the cas ing 1 1. It will be understood from this construction that the fumes, gases and the like from the burner 11 do not enter into the heat distributer 18 but pass out through the tubular member 21. A cap or collar 22 is carried by the upper extremity of the tubular member 21 and has secured thereto a tube 23, said tube extending into a portion of said collar or cap 22. By this construction it will readily be understood that by passing a current of air through the tube 23, the flame of the burner 11 will be extinguished.

The flexible heat distributer 18 which is adapted to be retained in or on the bed is detachably secured to the tubular extension 17 of the outer casing 14: and contains the coil spring 24 which supplies the flexibility to the distributer. At the outer extremity of the heat distributer is a collar 25 to which is secured the cord or flexible member 26, which provides a means of retaining said distributer in various positions, as desired.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. In combination, a heat generator, a plurality of upwardly offset lugs mounted thereon, one of said lugs being provided with a recess in its outer edge, a casing having downwardly projecting extensions adapted to engage said lugs, said casings being spaced from said heat generator by said extensions, one of said extensions being bent upon itself to form a spring member adapted to engage in said recess, and a lamp chimney mounted within said casing and retained in spaced relation thereto, as set forth.

2. In combination, a heat generator, a plurality of upwardly ofi'set lugs mounted thereon, one of said lugs being provided with a recess in its outer edge, a casing having integral and inwardly projecting extensions thereon adapted to engage said lugs, said casing being spaced from said heat generator by said extensions, one of said lugs being extended to form a spring catch and a handle, said catch being adapted to engage in said recess, a horizontally disposed heat conducting member formed on said casing said member being provided with an opening in its side, and a chimney mounted within said casing and projecting through said opening for the purposes set forth.
