UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WESTERN D. MARKHAM, OF FRIAR. POINT, MISSISSIPPI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO W. B. MORLEY, OF FRIAR POINT, MISSISSIPPI.
LAMP ATTACHMENT.
Application filed January 31, 1907.
Be it known that I, WESTERN D. MARK- HAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Friar Point, in the county of Coahoma, State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Lamp Attachmentsyand I c 0 hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to lamp attachments, and more particularly to stove or heat, ing attachments for lamps and the invention has for its object to provide a device of this class which may be attached to any of the central draft lamps now on the market to produce a blue flame for heating or cooking purposes.
A further object of my invention is to pro duce not only a vessel supporting attachment for a lamp but also a novel device for cutting off the central draft of the lamp to a certain degree so that a smokeless and odor less blue flame will result.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken centrally through a lamp and showing my invention attached thereto, Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the device for closing the central draft tube, Fig. 3 is a detail view in side elevation of the vessel su porting member, and, Fig. 4 is a detail top plan view thereof.
Referring more specifically to the draw ings there is shown a lam comprising a font 5, a burner 6 and a centra draft tube 7 all of the usual construction.
The vessel supporting member of my invention comprises a foraminous cylindrical body portion 8 which is of greater diameter than the central draft tube 7. Riveted or otherwise secured by means of ears 9, to the lower edge of the body portion is an annular collar 10 having an annular depending flange 11, the ears 9 being formed integral with the collar 10 at its inner periphery. This collar is of such diameter as to exactly receive the lower end of the foraminous body portion 8 and hence the flange 11 is of greater diameter than the said body portion and in fact is substantially of the same diameter as the chimney for the lamp, which chimney of course is removed when the attachment is placed in position.
Secured at equidistant intervals at their Specification of Letters Patent.

terminating. directly above the upper edge of the said body 8. The vertically bent portion 14 of the fingers are riveted or otherwise secured to the outer periphery of a collar 16 which is preferably provided at its upper edge with an annular inturned flange 17 and this collar serves to maintain the fingers in proper relative position and the flange 17 serves to brace the collar against being bent out of shape which would be very likely if the collar is not flanged. This element of my invention is placed upon the lamp burner in the same manner as is the chimney of the lamp, that is with the collar 10 and its flange 11 engaged inwardly of the chimney supporting fingers 18 for the lamp burner. The other element of my invention which as hereinbefore stated is designed to partly close the central draft tube 7 of the lamp, comprises a disk 19 which has stamped up from it at equidistant points a plurality of spring fingers. These fingers extend upwardly and inwardly from the disk and toward each other as at 20 and are thence directed upwardly and slightly outwardly as at 21 after which the upper end portion of the fingers are bent upwardly and toward each other as at 22 to permit of ready insertion of the member in the draft tube. A finger piece 23 is stamped up at the center of this disk and through the resultant opening, the very small amount of air necessary to the proper operation of the device is admitted.
What is claimed is The combination with a central draft lamp, and a vessel supporting member supported upon the burner of the lamp, of a device for partly closing the central draft tube of the lamp, said device comprising a circular disk, fingers formed integral with the periphery of the disk at equidistant points thereon and bent upwardly and inwardly and thence upwardly and outwardly and again inwardly, the last mentioned bends of piece resulting in an opening for the passage the fingers being located beyond a periphery of air into the said tube. 10 of the said disk whereby when the device is In testimony whereof, I afiix my signainserted within the central draft tube, the ture, in presence of two witnesses.

side of the said tube, and a curved finger Witnesses: piece stamped upwardly from the disk and E. B. DICKEY,
centrally thereof, the formation of the finger P. M. FLYNN.
