Description

(No Model.)
L. WOJIDKOW.
COOKING LAMP.
No. 466,867. Patented Jan. 12, 18912.
ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS WOJIDKOWV, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO SIGMUND STERNAU, OF NEW' YORK, N. Y., AND HERMANN STRASSBURGER, OF
MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA.
COOKING-LAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,867, dated January 12,1892.
Application filed August 18, 1891. Sen'al No. 403,059. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS WOJIDKOW, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cooking-Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to animprovement in cooking-lamps, the object of the same being to construct an article of this kind so as to insure a supply of air to the flame and in other ways improve upon the devices as now commonly constructed; and with these ends in view myinvention consists in certain novel features of construction, as willbe hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 is a plan view of the lamp or stove, a portion of the top being broken away. .Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, partly in section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the guard-ring.
Referring to the drawings, A is the lamp or stove proper, so shaped and designed as to rest upon a suitable stand or bracket. (Not shown.)
B represents the well or receptacle containing asbestus b or other suitable material for holding alcohol, kerosene, or other fluid. The upper portion of this bowl or receptacle B, I form into an outwardly-extending flange b, forming a seat for the edges of the wire-netting E, covering the top of the bowl B, and designed to keep or hold the material 12' therein.
To the top of the bowl is secured the ring 0, provided with the upwardly-curved flange F, forming the circular opening f, through which the flame from the lamp issues. The ring is also formed with the flat side f and the vertical side f and then bent around upon itself and around the flange b of the bowl B. The flat side f is provided with the holes or openings 0, through which air is fed to the flame, the air being properly directed thereto by means of the guard-ring D, shaped as shown in Fig. 3. This ring is formed with the outwardly-extending flange d, which rest-s upon the edge of the wire gauze or netting E, and is tightly secured by clinching the outer edge of the ring 0. The ring is then bent upwardly, as at e, inwardly, as at e, and finally upwardly, as at c and is suffioiently Wide to extend within the lamp to protect the holes or openings 0, formed in the ring 0. By means of so constructing and arranging the parts the draft through the holes 0 will be directed to the center of the lamp and prevent the flame from issuing from said holes, and thereby insure sufficient air to the flame to prevent smoking.
I am aware .that lamps of this character have been constructed with holes 0, and hence I make no broad claim to such; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A lamp or burner constructed with a bowl B for containing asbestus or other suitable material, a ring 0, bent as shown and provided with openings 0 and flange F, a guardring D, secured between said former ring and bowl, and bent, as at e, e, and 6 for protecting said openings 0 and for directing the air to the flame, and a wire gauze or netting E, secured between said bowl and ring D for holding the asbestus or other material in said bowl, substantially as described.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 10th day of August, A. D. 1891.
LOUIS VVOJIDKOW.
