Verimsiz bir NOx tutucusunun (16) yenilenmesine gereksinim duyulduğunda, motorun (10) bazı silindirlerinin zengin çalıştırıldığı ve motorun (10) arta kalan silindirlerinin verimsiz çalıştırıldığı ve zengin ve verimsiz çalıştırılan silindirlerin, verimsiz NOx tutucu yenileme süreci esnasında motorun yağına, yakı aktarımının azaltılması için zenginden verimsize ve verimsizden zengine olarak önceden belirlenmiş bir şekilde değiştirildiği çok silindirli verimsiz yanan bir dizel motorun (10) çalıştırılmasına dair bir yöntem tarif edilmektedir.
