Abstract

The invention is concerned with a plastics insulator suitable for use in the re-insulation of jointing points, branch points and bends, where insulation has been stripped from metallic conduit pipes preinsulated at the factory; which insulator consists of two complementary half-shells 1, the parting plane of which coincides with the axial direction of the conduit pipe, which half-shells are releasably joined to one another around the piece of pipe from which insulation has been stripped, by means of studs and cooperating bores. The insulator of the invention is characterised in that: the bores (9) have a chamfer (9a) Fig. 4 and an undercut; the studs (8) have a co-operating chamfer (8b) (Fig. 5) and portion of reduced diameter; and the studs (8) are so formed that, upon assembly of the half-shells (1), they resiliently expand into the undercut of the cooperating bore (9). <IMAGE>
