Abstract

1,149,920. Vehicle headlamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 27 June, 1966 [30 June, 1965], No. 28720/66. Heading F4R. [Also in Division H1] A vehicle headlamp comprises a parabolic reflector 11 and an incandescent lamp the filament 42 of which is arranged with its axis along the axis of the reflector but beyond the focal point F11 and the envelope of which is tubular with the axis at least 15 degrees to the axis of the reflector. The lamp is surrounded by a screen 45 extending up to the level of the axis of the reflector. In a modification, the screen may be replaced by a light impervious layer on the bulb wall. If an asymmetric beam is required one side of the screen may be modified by removal of a segment of the upper rim. The lower half of the reflector may co-operate with a further filament (e.g. to produce a main beam) and may have a form which is different from or its axis displaced from that of the upper half. In another modification, the lower half of the reflector is omitted, no screen being then needed for the lamp bulb. The upper half of the reflector may have a small downward continuation to produce an asymmetric beam. The bulb may then be at right angles to the axis of the reflector. The bottom of the reflector may be closed by a plate.
