Abstract

1,192,346. Vehicle headlamps. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. 7 Feb., 1969 [8 Feb., 1968], No. 6630/69. Heading F4R. A vehicle headlmap comprises a cylindrical quartz halogen double filament bulb 1, wherein a main beam filament 2 lies substantially in the focal plane 7 of a parabolic reflector 4 and a dipped beam filament 3 lies in front of the focal plane of the reflector, and both filaments lie outside the axis of symmetry 5 of the cylindrical bulb and approximately on the optical axis A of the headlamp, there being a dipping cap 6 associated with the bulb to produce an assymetrical dipped beam, and a partial mask adjacent the apex 12 of the parabolic reflector 4. The dipping cap and mask, which are provided to prevent glare, are so placed as to prevent light rays reaching the reflector which after reflection would leave the lamp in an upward direction 22. The mask may comprise an unmetallized or blackened area on the reflector or a non-reflecting piece of sheet metal fixed to the reflector, Fig. 3, not shown. Alternatively an additional auxiliary reflector may be fitted to reflect the dipped beam in the required direction. In additional screen may be provided, Fig. 5, not shown, to prevent part of the main beam from being scattered by the headlamp glass in unwanted directions.
