Abstract

1446040 Vehicle headlamps ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 11 Sept 1973 [12 Sept 1972] 42611/73 Heading F4R A headlamp comprises a parabolic reflector 1, a bulb 3 with its filament disposed at the focus f1 of the reflector, a polarizing film 5 disposed in the path of the reflected light, and a reflector segment 2 having a smaller focal length than the reflector 1 rigidly located in the upper half of the reflector 1 for reflecting light obliquely downwards with respect to the optical axis of the reflector 1, the polarizing film having an aperture 6 so disposed and dimensioned that all the light reflected by the segment passes therethrough. The film is protected by a heat filter 4, and the lamp is closed by a lens 7 having a central circular zone provided with vertical light-diffusing ribs (7a, 7b) and an outer annular region which is unribbed. The parts 4, 5 and 7 are secured to the reflector 1 by an annular supporting frame 8 having openings to allow air to circulate over the polarizing film. A dipping screen 13 may be provided to cut out the main beam illumination from the reflector 1, the screen having an aperture 10 corresponding to the aperture 6 and being of the type which is normally opaque but can be made light-transmissive by the application of a voltage to the terminals 11, 12.
