Abstract

1,232,136. Lamps for vehicle headlights. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 5 June, 1969 [8 June, 1968], No. 28562/69. Heading F4R. [Also in Division H1] In a halogen filament lamp for a vehicle headlight having a main beam filament and a dipped beam filament 7 arranged eccentrically to, and with their longitudinal axes in the longitudinal direction of, the axis 17 of the lamp, the dipped beam filament is partly surrounded by a lightintercepting screen 9 within the lamp bulb. This screen covers an arc in a plane at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the lamp, which subtends an angle of between 165 and 180 degrees at the axis of the lamp. The side of the screen facing the dipped beam filament comprises a reflecting surface, and the screen is arranged between the dipped light filament and the wall of the tubular part of the lamp envelope, with a part c, d curving towards the lamp axis 17 between the two filaments of such a shape that rays 25 from the dipped beam filament are reflected 27 at an angle of at most 60 degrees with the lamp axis 17 in a direction away from the parabolic reflector 11 of the lamp, the remainder of the screen being arranged to reflect the light rays so that they do not pass through a cylindrical region coaxial with the lamp envelope and situated between the filaments and having a maximum radius of 2À5 times the dipped beam filament diameter.
