Abstract
1,112,416. Electric switches &c. CALOREMAG ELEKTRIZITATS-A.G. 22 April, 1965, No. 3045/68. Divided out of 1,112,414. Heading H1N. Two high-tension conductors 1, 15 are each embedded or immersed in an insulating medium having a dielectric strength greater than that of air and connection between them is effected in a casing 5 filled with a fluid insulating medium having a dielectric strength greater than that of air. As shown, the conductor 1 embedded in the insulant 2 carries a contact 4 in a chamber 5 filled with SF 6 with a conical portion 23 having an aperture which can be closed by a spring- loaded flap 28. The conductor 15 is surrounded by an oil- or gas-filled tube 22 terminating in a conical member 24. Insertion of the conductor lifts the flap 28, the aperture in the member 23 being closed by the conductor until it mates with the connector 4 when a portion of reduced diameter provides an annular channel 26 through which gas from the chamber 5 can seep into the space 25, between the conical members, now closed by a seal 27. In another embodiment (Figs. 3-6, not shown) both conductors have solid insulating coverings which extend up to the joint and have embedded potential control electrodes, the spill chamber being provided between members carried respectively by the movable conductor and by the casing of the contact zone, as in the form above described.
