464,801. Cable joints; cable - end constructions. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., SCOTT, T. R., WEBB, J. K., and MILDNER, R. C. Oct. 25, 1935, No. 29535. Addition to 377,311. [Classes 36 and 38 (i)] Stress-distributing means at a cable termination, Fig. 1, or a joint, Fig. 2, consists of a hollow self-supporting condenser cone 6 formed of conductive layers 8 embedded in insulation, the cone being arranged with its metal former 7 fitted on to the end of the cable insulation 2 and with its base directed towards the sheath 1 but spaced from it. The invention is particularly applicable to terminations fitted with conical porcelain sealing chambers 5 and to joints insulated by lapped insulation 13. Polymerized styrene may be used for insulating the termination or joint. Specifications 429,611 and 449,868 are referred to.
