Abstract
Den foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrører komprimerbare polymere Skummaterialer som er anvendbare som isolasjon. Disse polymere skum er fremstilt ved polymerisering av visse vann- i-olje emulsjoner som har et relativt høyt forhold mellom vannfase og oljefase, vanlig kjent som "HIPE'er". De polymere Skummaterialer omfatter en generelt hydrofob, fleksibel eller halvfleksibel, ikke-ionisk polymer skumstruktur av innbyrdes forbundede åpne celler. Skumstrukturene har: (a) et spesifikt overflateareal pr. skumvolum på minst omtrent 0.01 m2/cm3, (b) en ekspandert densitet på mindre enn omtrent 0,05 g/cm3, og (c) et forhold mellom ekspandert og komprimert tykkelse på minst omtrent 3:1, hvori, når skummet er komprimert til 33% av sin opprinnelige ekspanderte tykkelse og deretter opprettholdes uten kunstig påtrykk på sin overflate, skummet vil reekspandere med ikke mer enn 50% etter 21 dager ved omgivelsestemperatur (22°C). I en foretrukket utførelsesform vil skummene i samsvar med den foreliggende oppfinnelse, når varmet til sin Tg eller høyere, reekspandere til 90% av sin opprinnelige tykkelse i løpet av omtrent l døgn eller mindre. Oppfinnelsen vedrører også en fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av det komprimerbare polymere skummaterial omfattende polymerisering av en vann-i-olje emulsjon som har et volum- til-vekt forhold mellom vannfase og oljefase i området fra omtrent 20:1 til omtrent 250:1.
