Fremgangsmåter og kits for påvisning av vannbårne patogener og indikatororganismer i vannprøver ved å gjenvinne celler av patogener eller indikatororganismer fra en vannprøve, hvor cellene lyseres for å gjenvinne unedbrutt DNA, hvor det amplifiseres en målgensekvens av et målgen som er tilstede i cellene av patogenene eller indikatororganismene ved polyroerase kjedereak- sjonsamplifisering og påvisning av tilstedeværelse av amplifiserte målgensekvenser, for å bestemme tilstede- værelse eller fravær av patogener eller indikatoror- ganismer i forsøksprøven.
