Abstract
Det er beskrevet en beleggende sammensetning som lar seg herde under påvirkning av ultrafiolett lys og som består av et UV-herdbart bindemiddel, en fotoinitiator og en akselerator bestå-ende av et polycyklisk kondensasjonsprodukt av formaldehyd eller acetaldehyd og et alifatisk eller cykloalifatisk diprimært 1,2-diamin. Det UV-herdbare bindemiddel er fortrinnsvis et addukt inneholdende minst én isocyanatgruppe av (a) en akrylisk eller metakrylisk hydroksyester med fra 5 - 20 karbonatomer og (b) et polyisocyanat med fra 4-44 karbonatomer og fra 2-4 isocyanatgrupper.
Description
Foreliggende oppfinnelse angår en beleggende sammensetning som kan herdes under påvirkning av ultrafiolett lys, og som er basert på et UV-herdbart bindemiddel, en fotoinitiator og en nitrogenholdig akselerator. I kjente sammensetninger bruker man vanligvis en aromatisk karbonylforbindelse som fotoinitiator, og et alkylamin eller et alkanolamin som akselerator, se f.eks. U.S. patent nr. 4.077.858. Ved herding av pigmenterte eller ikke-pigmenterte sammensetninger vil denne kombinasjonen fore til belegg med en god overflatehardhet. En ulempe er imidlertid at nevnte akseleratorer vanligvis ikke lar seg blande tilstrekkelig med UV-herdbare bindemidler, slik at man får en turbiditet eller dannelse av uklarhet i belegget av den herdede sammensetning eller en utskillelse av akseleratoren på grunn av disse vandrer ut til overflaten. En annen ulempe er at når man bruker alkanolaminer, så er det ikke mulig å bruke noe kjent UV-herdbart bindemiddel, og man kan f.eks. ikke bruke et bindemiddel med isocyanatgrupper og/eller epoksygrupper, fordi den resulterende reaksjonen mellom slike komponenter vil fore til en sammensetning som ikke kan lagres i tilstrekkelig lang tid.
Det er en hensikt ved foreliggende oppfinnelse
å tilveiebringe en sammensetning som ikke har de ovennevnte ulemper og samtidig som man beholder fordelen med en rask og enkel herding.
Sammensetningen ifb'lge foreliggende oppfinnelse erkarakterisert vedat akseleratoren er et polycyklisk kondensasjonsprodukt av formaldehyd og/eller acetaldehyd og et alifatisk og/eller cykloalifatisk diprimært 1,2-idiamin.
Som bindemiddel kan man generelt brukeZethvert kjent UV-herdbart bindemiddel. Som eksempler på egnede bindemidler kan man nevne umettede polyesterharpikser og alkydharpikser, umettede melamin-formaldehydharpiksér, poly-ibutadienharpikser og umettede forbindelser såsom (met)akry-later og allylforbindelser.
Som eksempler på illustrerende UV-herdbare poly estre kan nevnes polykondensasjonsprodukter fra umettede di- eller polykarboksylsyrer eller deres derivater, f.eks. maleinsyre, maleinsyreanhydrid, fumarsyre og polyoler såsom etylenglykol, 1,2-propandiol, dietylenglykol, 1,3-pro-pylenglykol, polyetylenglykol, heksandiol, glycerol, trimetylolpropan og/eller pentaerytritol. Foruten umettede karboksylsyrer kan det også være tilstede mettede karboksylsyrer såsom syntetiske og/eller naturlige fettsyrer, benzosyre, isononaninsyre, maloinsyre, glutarsyre, adipin-syre, azelainsyre, sebacinsyre, tetrahydroftalinsyre, ftal-syre, ftalsyreanhydrid, isoftalsyre, tereftalsyre, heksa-klorendometylentetrahydroftalinsyre og/eller trimellitin-syre. Vanligvis vil disse polyestre være blandet med umettede monomeriske forbindelser med vinylgrupper og/eller allylgrupper. Som monomeriske forbindelser vil man vanligvis bruke styren, vinyltoluen og/eller metylmetakrylat.
Illustrerende eksempler på (metp"akrylater og allylforbindelser er f.eks. metylakrylat, metylmetakrylat,. etylakrylat, etylmetakrylat, butylakrylat, (met)akryliske estre av alifatiske dioler og/eller polyoler, f.eks. etylen-diakrylat, trimetylolpropantriakrylat og pentaerytritol-tetraakrylat; hydroksy(met)akrylater såsom hydroksyetyl-akrylat, 3-hydroksypropylakrylat, 3-hydroksypropylmetakry-lat, 4-hydroksybutylakrylat og pentaerytritoltriakrylat og allylforbindelser såsom diallylftalat, diallylmaleat, tri-allylisocyanurat og etylenglykoldiallyleter. Eventuelt kan disse forbindelser blandes med mindre mengder av mono-merer såsom akrylonitril, metakrylonitril, akrylamid, met-akrylamid, N,N-disubstituerte akrylamider og metakrylamider, vinylacetat, succinsyredivinylester, isobutylvinyleter, 1,4-butandioldivinyleter, styren, alkylstyren, halogen-styren, divinylbenzen, vinylnaftalen og.N-vinylpyrrolidon.
Det er imidlertid foretrukket at det brukte bindemidlet er en uretanakrylatharpiks, mer spesielt en som inneholder minst.ett isocyanatgruppe-holdig addukt av a) en akrylisk eller metakrylisk hydroksyester med fra 5-20 karbonatomer, og b) et polyisocyanat med fra 4-44 karbon atomer og 2 - 4 isocyanatgrupper. Som eksempler på egnede isocyanatgrupper kan nevnes heksametylendiisocyanat, 2,2,4-trimetylheksan-1,6-diisocyanat, 2,4,4-trimetylheksan-l,6-diisocyanat, cykloheksyl-1,4-diisocyanat, isoforondiisocyanat, adduktet av 1 molekyl 1,4-butandiol og 2 molekyler isoforondiisocyanat, adduktet av. 1 molekyl 1,4-butandiol og 2 molekyler hksametylendiisocyanat, dicykloheksylmetan-4,4'-diisocyanat, xylylendiisocyanat, l,3,5-trimetyl-(2,4-^ -diisocyanatometyl)-benzen, toluendiisocyanat, difenyl-metan-4,4'-diisocyanat, triisocyanatet av en lysinester, adduktet av 3 molekyler heksametylendiisocyanat og 1 molekyl vann, adduktet av 1 molekyl trimetylolpropan og 3 mole- . kyler isoforondiisocyanat, adduktet av 1 molekyl trimetylolpropan og 3 molekyler toluendiisocyanat og adduktet av 1 molekyl pentaerytritol og 4 molekyler heksametylendiisocyanat. Som eksempler på egnede hydroksy(met)akrylater med minst én hydroksygruppe, kan nevnes 2-hydroksyetyl-akrylat, 2-hydroksyetylmetakrylat, 3-hydroksypropylmetakry-lat, 4-hydroksybutylakrylat, 12-hydroksydodekanylakrylat, trimetylolpropandimetakrylat, pentaerytritoldiakrylat og pentaerytritoltriakrylat. Bruken av ovennevnte uretanakry-latharpikser gir den fordel at det polycykliske polykondensasjonsprodukt som brukes som akselerator, kjemisk bindes i det endelige belegg, hvorved man unngår at man får en ubnsket myknende effekt. Bruken av en slik forbindelse har ytterligere den fordel at den oker molekylvekten på isocyanatforbindelsen, slik at man ytterligere bedrer be-leggets fysiske egenskaper og herdighet.
Andre bindemidler som med fordel kan brukes i beleggende sammensetninger ifblge foreliggende oppfinnelse, er umettede epoksyharpikser, f.eks.de som fremstilles ved addisjon av (met)akrylsyre eller av en halvester av en polyvalent karboksylsyre og en hydroksyakrylatforbindelse, til en epoksyforbindelse med 2 eller flere epoksygrupper. Som eksempler på egnende epoksyforbindelser kan nevnes: 1,4-butandioldiglycidyleter og diglycidyletrene av 4,4-dihyd-roksydifenyl-2,2-propan, l,l'-isopropyliden-bis-(p-fenylen- oksy)-2-dietanol og l,l'-isopropyliden-bis-(p-fenylenoksy)-2-dipropanol. Alternativt er det selvsagt også mulig å bruke blandinger av umettede polymerer i kombinasjon,
hvis dette er bnskelig, med mettede polymerer, eller å bruke UV-herbare blandinger av polymerer og mettede eller umettede monomeriske forbindelser.
Egnede fotoinitiatbrer er f.eks. aromatiske kar-bonylforbindelser såsom benzll, benzildimetylketal, aceto-fenon, substituerte acetofenoner, tioxanton og klortio-xanton. Det er foretrukket å bruke benzofenon. Eventuelt kan man bruke fargede forbindelser såsom aromatiske azo-forbindelser og forbindelser såsom benzoin og dens etere, såsom metyleteren, etyleteren, propyletereh og den tert.-butyleter. Man kan også bruke blandinger av fotoinitia-torer. Fotoinitiatoren er vanligvis tilstede i en mengde på fra 0,05 - 10 vekt-%, basert på vekten av det UV-herdbare bindemidlet.
Ifblge foreliggende oppfinnelse så vil det polycykliske polykondensasjonsprodukt som brukes som en akselerator i fotoinitiatorsystemet, på den ene side bygges opp fra formaldehyd og/eller acetaldehyd og på den annen side fra et alifatisk og/eller cykloalifatisk diprimært 1,2-diamin. 1,2-diaminet inneholder vanligvis fra 2-26 karbonatomer, mer spesielt 2-12 karbonatomer. Som eksempler på meget godt egnede 1,2-diaminer kan nevnes: 1,2-etylendiamin, 1-cyano-l,2-diaminoetan, 1,2-propylendiamin, 1,2-dlmel^I-172^i^l^hlilamln, r72^-buty_lendiamin, 1,2-diamino-heksan og 1,2-diaminocykloheksan. Det er foretrukket å bruke etylendiamin og/eller 1,2-propylendiamin.
Ved fremstillingen av det polycykliske polykonden-sas jonsproduktet blir formaldehydet og/eller acetaldehydet og 1,2-diaminet (diaminene) brukt i mengder på fra 1-5 mol, fortrinnsvis 1-3 mol, og mer spesielt 2 mol av al-dehydet pr. mol av diaminet. Strukturen på de fremstilte produkter under nevnte polykondensasjonsreaksjon vil vari-ere alt avhengig av den type diamin som brukes. Det er foretrukket at produktene som fremstilles ikke bor inne holde C=N-grupper og at N-atomene bor være av tertiær type.
Det er foretrukket at 'polykondensasjonsreaksjonen utfores i nærvær av et uorganisk eller organisk opplbsningsmiddel, fortrinnsvis i vann. Alternativt kan man bruke blandinger. Bruken av opplbsningsmiddel er imidlertid ikke kritisk. Polykondensasjonsreaksjonen kan akselereres ved hjelp av en basisk katalysator, f.eks.. natriumhydroksyd eller kaliumhydroksyd. Reaksjonen utfores vanligvis ved temperaturer fra -20 - 150°C, fortrinnsvis mellom 0 og 100°C, mer spesielt ved romtemperatur.. Fremstillingen av polycykliske polykondensasjonsprodukter er kjent,- og er bl.a. beskrevet i Ber. Chem. Ges. 95 (1962), p. 1493 og Makromol. Chem. 17, pp. 77 - 130 (1955).
Når man bruker bindemidler som ikke er reaktive med hensyn til akseleratoren, brukes sistnevnte i en mengde på fra 0,1 - 10 vekt-%, basert på bindemidlet. Når man bruker reaktive bindemidler, f.eks. av den type som har isocyanatgrupper eller epoksygrupper, så brukes akseleratoren i mengder på fra 0,7 - 1,3 ekvivalenter pr. ekvivalent bindemiddel.
Den beleggende sammensetning kan, hvis det er bnskelig, ytterligere inneholde andre additiver som pigment-dispergerende midler, utjevnende midler, fyllstoffer, pig-menter, fargestoffer, hemmere for polymerisering og inerte eller reaktive opplbsningsmidler.
Påfbring av sammensetningen på den forbnskede overflate kan utfores på enhver hensiktsmessig måte, f.eks. ved hjelp av valser, påpensling, utbbrstning, ved hjelp av en sprbytepistol, dypping etc. Sammensetningen kan på-fbres ethvert substrat, f.eks. plaststoffer, sponplater, trematerialer og fortrinnsvis metallsubstrater som et belegg i malingssystemer for biler.
Som en kilde for UV-bestråling kan man f.eks. bruke en kvikksblvlampe eller en xenonlampe som har hbyt, middels eller lavt trykk. Sammensetningen trenger ikke å eksponeres overfor bestråling i mer enn tidsrom fra et par sekunder til et par minutter. Det ultrafiolette lys som vanligvis brukes har en bblgelengde fra 90 - 600 nm.
De fblgende eksempler illustrerer oppfinnelsen. Hardheten på det herdede belegg ble målt ved hjelp av Persoz's metode og er uttrykt i sekunder. Glans og utseende ble bestemt visuelt.
Kondensasjonsproduktet av formaldehyd og etylendiamin som brukes som akselerator i de fblgende eksempler ble fremstilt på fblgende måte. 125 g etylendiamin og 25 g NaOH i 1500 ml vann ble dråpevis og langsomt ved 20 - 30°C tilsatt en blanding av 240 g 40% vandig formaldehyd-opplbsning og 150 g vann. Etter en reaksjonstid på 20 timer ved romtemperatur ble mesteparten av vannet avdestil-ler, fulgt av filtrering og vasking av filtratet med diok-san.
Eksempel I
En blanding av 100 vektdeler av en 60 vekt-% opplbsning av adduktet av 1 mol heksametylendiisocyanat og 2 mol pentaerytritoltriakrylat, 2 vekt-deler benzofenon og 2 vektdeler av kondensasjonsproduktet som aksela-rator ble påfbrt en avfettet stålplate til en lagtykkelse på 30<y>um (i herdet tilstand).
For å få en sammenligning gjennomførte man samme fremgangsmåte, bortsett fra at man brukte 2,0 vektdeler dimetyletanolamin som akselerator.
Blandingene ble underkastet bestråling i 10 sekunder ved hjelp av en hbytrykks kvikksblvdamplampe (av "HOK 80 W/cm" typen som fremstilles av Philips), idet lampen ble plassert 40 cm fra substratet. Resultatene er angitt i tabell 1.
Eksempel II
Fremgangsmåten fra eksempel I ble gjentatt, bortsett fra at man brukte en 70 vekt-% opplbsning av reaksjonsproduktet av 1 mol diglycidyleter av bisphenol A (tilgjenge-lig under varemerket "Epikote 828" fra Shell) og 2 mol akrylsyre i polyetylenglykoldiakrylat.
For å få en sammenligning brukte man samme fremgangsmåte, bortsett fra at man brukte dimetyletanolamin som akselerator i en mengde på 2,0 vekt-deler. Resultatene er angitt i tabell 2.
Eksempel III
En 70 vekt-% opplbsning av reaksjonsproduktet av 1 mol av adduktet av 3 molekyler heksametylendiisocyanat og 1 mol vann med 1-g- mol pentaerytritoltriakrylat i butylakrylat, ble blandet med en ekvivalent mengde (beregnet på basis av fritt NCO) av kondensasjonsproduktet som akselerator. Den oppnådde sammensetningen ble påfbrt en avfettet stålplate til en lagtykkelse på 30^um (i herdet tilstand) og underkastet en bestråling ved hjelp av en hbytrykks kvikksblvdamplampe (av "H0K"-typen fremstilt av Philips), som ble plassert 40 cm fra substratet. Det herdede lag var klebefritt. Persoz' hardheten ble bestemt umiddelbart etter bestråling, etter 4 timer og etter 1 dbgn, respektivt. Resultatene er angitt i tabell 3. iDét fremgår av disse resultater at kondensasjonsproduktet av formaldehyd og etylendiamin er en effektiv akselerator, og av den bkende hardheten på belegget fremgår det videre at reak- sjqnen med isocyanatforbindelsen forer til én okende mole-kylvekt på isocyanatforbindelsen.
Eksempel IV
En epoksyakrylatharpiks med frie epoksygrupper ble fremstilt på fblgende måte: En blanding av 280 g diglycidyleter av Bisphenol A (markedsføres av Shell under varemerket "Epikqte 828") og 72 g akrylsyre ble opplost i 150 g toluen. Man tilsatte . 1,8 g benzyltrimetylammoniummetoksyd som katalysator og 0,44 g tert,-butylhydrokinon som hemmer. Blandingen ble oppvarmet til 80°C under rbring samtidig som man forte en strbm av nitrogen gjennom blandingen. Produktet etter 5 timer hadde et syretall på 5,4. 100 g av dette bindemidlet ble tilsatt en stbkiometrisk mengde (beregnet på basis av frie epoksygrupper) av kondensasjonsproduktet som akselerator samt 2vekt-% benzofenon. Den resulterende sammensetningen ble påfbrt en avfettet stålplate til en tykkel-. se på 30^um (i herdet tilstand) og deretter fort under en., hbytrykks UV-lampe av "H0K"-typen i en avstand av 40 cm og me;dj en hastighet på 3,5 m/min. Hardheten ble bestemt umiddelbart etter bestråling og etter 1, 2, 4 og 7 dbgn. Man fant igjen at hardheten bket.
Claims (8)
1. Beleggende sammensetning som lar seg herde under påvirkning av ultrafiolett lys og som er basert på et UV-herdbart bindemiddel, en fotoinitiator og en nitrogenholdig akselerator, karakterisert ved at sistnevnte er et polycyklisk kondensasjonsprodukt av formaldehyd og/eller acetaldehyd og et alifatisk og/eller cykloalifatisk diprimært 1,2-diamin.
2. Beleggende sammensetning ifblge krav 1, karakterisert ved at akseleratoren er bygget opp fra formaldehyd og/eller acetaldehyd og fra et diamin med fra 2-26 karbonatomer.
3. Beleggende sammensetning ifblge krav 1, karakterisert ved at diaminet inneholder fra 2-12 karbonatomer.
4. Beleggende sammensetning ifblge krav 1, karakterisert ved at diaminet er etylendiamin og/eller 1,2-propylendiamin.
5. Beleggende sammensetning ifblge krav 1, karakterisert ved at akseleratoren er polykon-densas jonsproduktet av 1 - 5 mol formaldehyd og/eller acetaldehyd og 1 mol diamin.
6. Beleggende sammensetning ifblge krav 1, karakterisert ved at akseleratoren er polykon-densas jonsproduktet av 1 - 3 mol formaldehyd og/eller acetaldehyd og 1 mol diamin.
7. Beleggende sammensetning ifblge krav 1, karakterisert ved at det UV-herdbare bindemidlet er et addukt inneholdende minst 1 isocyanatgruppe og fremstilt av
a) en akrylisk eller metakrylisk hydroksyester med fra 5-20 karbonatomer og
b) et polyisocyanat med fra 4-44 karbonatomer og fra 2 - 4 isocyanatgrupper.
8. Beleggende sammensetning ifblge krav 1, karakterisert ved at det UV-herdbare bindemiddel er en umettet epoksyharpiks.
