Abstract

Oppfinnelsen angår en fremgangsmåte for utvinning av svovel fra en hydrogensulfid-holdig gass, hvor fremgangsmåten omfatter i) oksydering av en del av hydrogensulfidet i en gass-strøm med oksygen eller en oksygenholdig gass 1 et oksydasjonstrinn til svoveldioksyd; ii) reagering av produktgassen fra dette oksydasjonstrinnet i minst to katalytiske trinn, i samsvar med Claus-ligningen: 2 H2S + S02 ==> 2 H2O + 3/n Sn, iii) katalytisk reduksjon av S02 i gassen som kommer ut fra det siste av nevnte minst to katalytiske trinn, idet den katalytiske reduksjonen finner sted i et katalysatorerjikt nedstrøms fra det siste katalytiske Claus-trinnet.
