Description
The invention relates to a fabric-softening, extra-powerful, liquid detergent. More specifically, it relates to such a liquid detergent which comprises described synthetic organic detergent and builder components together with a swelling bentonite and a low molecular weight polyacrylate in an aqueous medium. The product according to the invention has an improved stable viscosity or thickness even after being stored for a month, is easily pourable and is a good laundry detergent and fabric softener1.
Extra strong liquid detergents suitable for machine washing have been marketed and have been described in various patents and in the literature. Bentonite has been included in particulate detergent compositions as a fabric softener and has been utilized in aqueous compositions as a thickener, which can help hold insoluble particulate matter, such as e.g. abrasives, suspended in a liquid medium. According to US Patent No. 4,469,605, bentonite was successfully used in the production of what was then considered to be an acceptably stable fabric-softening, extra-powerful liquid detergent in which the bentonite was the fabric-softening component. It is now known that the detergent compositions described in the said patent, although they were stable and relatively constant with regard to viscosity on storage when they were prepared in the laboratory and pilot plant, often thicken on storage when they are prepared with pro -duction equipment.

The liquid detergent described is a commercially acceptable, extra heavy duty laundry detergent which is capable of satisfactorily cleaning items to be washed containing both greasy and particulate soil, and at the same time depositing on such items to be washed, sufficient bentonite to soften them noticeably. The described mixtures can also be used for the pre-treatment of very dirty areas such as e.g. neckbands and cuffs, on articles to be washed, a treatment where the presence of the bentonite in the liquid which can be applied directly to the soiled areas, with some rubbing, is believed to be useful in that it mechanically helps to loosen and/or remove the soil .
The synthetic, anionic, organic detergent mixture present in the liquid detergents according to the invention is a mixture of straight chain or branched (preferably straight chain) higher alkyl benzene sulfonate and alkyl polyethoxy sulfate. Although other water-soluble straight-chain higher alkylbenzenesulfonates may also be present in the present compositions, such as e.g. potassium salts and in some cases the ammonium and/or alkanol ammonium salts, as appropriate, the sodium salt has been found to be highly preferred, which is also the case with the alkyl polyethoxysulfate detergent component. The alkylbenzene sulphonate is one in which the higher alkyl residue contains 10 - 16 carbon atoms, preferably 12 - 15, preferably 12 - 13 and most preferably 13 carbon atoms. The alkyl polyethoxy sulfate which can also be referred to as a sulfated polyethoxylated higher straight chain alcohol or the sulfated condensation product between a higher fatty alcohol and ethylene oxide or polyethylene glycol, is one where the alkyl residue contains 10 - 16 carbon atoms, preferably 12 - 15 carbon atoms, e.g. about. 13 carbon atoms, and comprising 2-11 ethylene oxide groups, preferably 2-7, preferably 3-5 and most preferably 3 or approx. 3 ethylene oxide groups. Under suitable circumstances, other anionic detergents such as e.g. fatty alcohol sulfates, paraffin sulfonates, olefin sulfonates, mono-glyceride sulfates, sarcosinates, sulfosuccinates and detergent compounds with a similar effect, preferably in the form of the alkali metal salts, e.g. the sodium salts, be present, sometimes in part as a substitute for the previously mentioned, synthetic organic detergent compounds, but usually, if present, in addition to such detergent compounds. Typically, such other detergent compounds will be sulfated or sulfonated products (usually as the sodium salts') and will contain long (8-20 carbon atoms) straight chain alkyl or fatty alkyl groups. In addition to any such other or supplementary anionic synthetic organic detergent compounds, non-ionic and amphoteric substances may also be present, such as e.g. "Neodols", which are condensation products of ethylene oxide and higher fatty alcohols, e.g. "Neodol 23-6.5" which is a condensation product between a higher fatty alcohol with approx. 12 - 13 carbon atoms and approx. 6.5
mol ethylenoxyd. Examples of various detergents and classes of detergents mentioned are found in Surface Active Agents, Vol. II, by Schwartz, Perry and Berch (Interscience Publishers, 1958), and in a series of annual publications entitled McCutcheon's Detergents and Emulsifiers, e.g. e.g. in the one published in 1969.
Selv om oppredet Wyoming bentonitt er foretrukket som en bestanddel i de foreliggende flytende vaskemiddeiblandinger, The builder-salt combination according to the invention which has been found to satisfactorily improve the washing ability of the mixture of synthetic anionic organic detergent compounds, which provides the desired pH in the liquid detergent and in the wash water, and which works together with the detergent and the bentonite in the washing and softening process, is a mixture of sodium tripolyphosphate and sodium carbonate. Although incompletely neutralized tripolyphosphate may in some cases be used, the phosphate used will normally be considered to be pentasodium tripolyphosphate, Ns^Oj* 1 in some cases, such as when the potassium salts of other substances are present, ion exchange in a aqueous medium result in salts other than the sodium tripolyphosphate being present, but for the purposes of this description it will be considered sodium tripolyphosphate, since the pentasodium salt, the substance usually added to the mixer to make the present liquid detergent, is the tripolyphosphate used. Other preferred building salts which may be used instead of or in addition to sodium tripolyphosphate and sodium carbonate include sodium citrate and potassium citrate, and sodium nitrilotriacetate (NTA). The corresponding potassium salts can also be used as a partial replacement for these other building salts. Of course, different mixtures of the mentioned water-soluble building salts can be used. The described mixture of tripolyphosphate and carbonate has been found to be the most preferred, although the other builders and mixtures thereof are also effective. Further other builders can be used as supplements in addition to. the shares of the above-mentioned builders, as described below. Thus, other phosphates, such as e.g. tetrasodium pyrophosphate or tetrapotassium pyrophosphate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium sesquicarbonate, sodium gluconate, borax, sodium silicate and sodium sesquisilicate are used. Also useful are the polyacetal carboxylate builders described in US Patent No. 4,144,226 and other related patents, available under the trade name "Builder U". Among the water-insoluble builders that can be used are the zeolites, which e.g. "Zeolite A", usually in the form of its crystalline hydrate, although amorphous zeolites may also be used. It is a feature of the invention that sodium silicate is not needed to make an effective, extra powerful detergent-softener mixture, and therefore this silicate will usually be omitted in the present mixtures, and any undesirable properties it may have will therefore be avoided. E.g. will any tendencies of the silicate to react with other components in the liquid detergent, such as e.g. zeolite, sodium carbonate or another builder, so that insoluble matter is formed which may tend to stick to the laundry and thereby adversely affect the desirable bright colors of the laundry, is avoided. The absence of silicate in the detergent medium also prevents the formation of insoluble, silicon-containing decomposition products of the silicate, which could tend to adversely affect the appearance of the liquid detergent and the laundry if such occurred in the liquid detergent or were deposited on the laundry. The bentonite used is a colloidal clay (aluminium silicate) containing montmorillonite. The type of bentonite most useful for making the invented detergents is that known as sodium bentonite (or Wyoming or Western bentonite) which usually has a light to creamy color, or can be a brownish fine powder which in water can form a colloidal slurry with strong thixotropic properties. In many cases, a potassium bentonite or a mixed sodium-potassium bentonite can be used instead. In water, the swelling capacity of such a clay will usually be in the range of 3-15 or 20 ml/g, preferably 7-15 ml/g, and the viscosity at 6% concentration in water will usually be in the range of 3-30 centipoise, preferably 8 -30 centipoise. Preferred swelling bentonites of this type are sold under the trademark "Mineral Colloid", as industrial bentonites. ;These substances, which are the same as formerly sold under the trademark "Thixo-Jel" are selectively broken and ;prepared bentonites, and those considered most useful are available as "Mineral Colloid No. 101", etc. corresponding to "Thixo-Jel"<*>s No. 1,2, 3 and 4. Such substances have a pH (6% concentration in water) in the range 8 - 9.4, maximum content of free water (before the addition of the liquid detergent -medium) of 4 - 8% and specific gravities of approx. 2.6. At least approx. 85% of the powdered fineness of such substances will pass through a sieve with 74 pm openings. Preferably, all of the bentonite will pass through a 200 mesh sieve and most preferably all will pass through, or be about the size that will just pass through a sieve with 44 pm apertures, so that the equivalent diameter of the bentonite can be considered to be less than 74 pm and preferably approx., or less than, 44 um. Among usable, commercially available, finely divided bentonites of satisfactory color, that sold as "AEG 325" bentonite is considered to be interchangeable with the previously mentioned "Mineral Colloids" and "Thixo-Jels". Although prepared Wyoming bentonite is preferred as an ingredient in the present liquid detergent compositions,
er også andre bentonitter brukbare, deriblant de syntetiske bentonitter (de som lages av bentonitter med utbyttbart kalsium og/eller magnesium, ved natriumcarbonatbehandling), og er ment å kunne være inkludert i blandinger ifølge opp- other bentonites are also usable, including the synthetic bentonites (those made from bentonites with exchangeable calcium and/or magnesium, by sodium carbonate treatment), and are intended to be able to be included in mixtures according to
finnelsen. Typical chemical analysis results for some bentonites useful for making the present liquid detergents show that they contain 64.8'-73.0% SiO2, 14-18% Al2O3, 1.6-2.7% MgO, 1, 3 - 3.1% CaO,
2,3 - 3,4 % Fe203, 0,8 - 2,8 % Na20 og 0,4 - 7,0 % K20. 2.3 - 3.4% Fe2O3, 0.8 - 2.8% Na2O and 0.4 - 7.0% K2O.
Anvendelse av bentonitt som et tøymykningsmiddel i Application of bentonite as a fabric softener i
Videre er det unødvendig å ha vaskemiddelblandingen ifølge oppfinnelsen i en slik utformning som fremmer hurtig oppbrytning av vaskemiddelpartiklene i vaskevannet for frigjøring av bentonittpartiklene ettersom slike partikler ikke agglomereres til harde masser som kunne kreve ytterligere tid for oppbrytning, i det flytende vaskemiddel. the present liquid detergent mixtures have the advantage that the bentonite does not need to be dried, e.g. in a spray dryer, and therefore the risk of losing the softening power of the bentonite due to immobilization of the plates by this component during overdrying is avoided. Furthermore, it is unnecessary to have the detergent mixture according to the invention in such a design that promotes rapid breakdown of the detergent particles in the wash water to release the bentonite particles, as such particles are not agglomerated into hard masses that could require additional time for breakdown, in the liquid detergent.
The polyacrylate used is a low molecular weight polyacrylate, preferably sodium polyacrylate, the molecular weight being within the range 1000 - 5000, preferably 1000 - 3000 and preferably 1500 - 2500, e.g. about. 2000. The average molecular weight will usually lie within the range 1200 - 2500, which e.g. about. 2000. Although other polyacrylates can sometimes partially replace the described sodium polyacrylate, including other alkali metal polyacrylates, it is preferred that such substitutions, when the possibility opens up for them, are limited to a smaller proportion of the substance, and preferably the polyacrylate used will be sodium polyacrylate . Such substances are available under the name "Alcosperse". The sodium polyacrylates are available as clear, amber liquids or powders, completely soluble in water, the solutions having a solids content of approx. 25 - 40%, e.g.

Begge er natriumpolyacrylater hvor væsken ("107") 30%, and when the pH in such solutions, or in a 30% aqueous solution of the powder, is in the range approx. 7.0 - 9.5. The preferred of these products are currently sold as "Alcosperse 104", "107", "107D", "109" and "149", of which "Alcosperse 107D", a 100% solids powder, is highly preferred although " Alcosperse 107", a 30% aqueous solution, can be used instead with little difference in results. Both are sodium polyacrylates where the liquid ("107")
har en pH i området 8,5 - 9,5, og pH til pulveret ("107D") has a pH in the range 8.5 - 9.5, and the pH of the powder ("107D")
er i området 7,0 - 8,0, ved en konsentrasjon i vann. is in the range 7.0 - 8.0, at a concentration in water.
The only other ingredient required in the present liquid detergents is water. Usually, the hardness content in such water will be less than approx. 300 ppm as CaSO 3 , and preferably it will be less than 150 ppm. It may often be desirable to use deionized water, although tap water with less than 50 - 100 ppm hardness content will often be just as satisfactory. Although harder water can be successfully used in the production of the present liquid detergents, it is considered less likely that softer water will give some questionable substances which could adversely affect the appearance of the liquid detergent, or which could inappropriately be deposited on the laundry during washing.
Normalt vil de enkelte andeler av slike hjelpestoffer være mindre enn 3%, ofte mindre enn 1% og noen ganger til og med mindre enn 0,5%, bortsett fra enkelte fyllstoffer og oppløsnings-midler, og ytterligere vaskemiddelforbindelser og byggere, Various auxiliary substances, both of an aesthetic and functional type, can be present in the liquid detergents, such as e.g. fluorescent whiteners, perfumes and dyes. The fluorescent whiteners include the well-known stilbene derivatives, including the cotton and nylon whiteners, which e.g. those sold under the trademark Tinopal, e.g. 5BM. The perfumes used usually comprise essential oils, esters, aldehydes and/or alcohols, all of which are known in the art of perfumery. The color additives may include dyes and water-dispersible pigments of various types, including ultramarine blue. Due to the brightening effect caused by the presence of the bentonite in the liquid detergent, the colors of the product can often be attractive pastel colours. Titanium dioxide can be used to make the color of the product even lighter, or to make it white. Inorganic filler salts such as sodium sulfate and sodium chloride may be present, which may also be the case for anti-redeposition agents such as e.g. sodium carboxymethylcellulose, enzymes, bleaches, bactericides, fungicides, anti-foaming agents such as e.g. silicones, dirt repellants such as e.g. copolyesters, preservatives such as formalin, foam stabilizers such as lauric acid-myristic acid-diethanolamide, and auxiliary solvents such as e.g. ethanol. Normally, the individual proportions of such auxiliaries will be less than 3%, often less than 1% and sometimes even less than 0.5%, apart from certain fillers and solvents, and additional detergent compounds and builders,
De vil heller ikke forårsake pro-duksjon av uønskede avsetninger på vasketøyet. which can sometimes be present in proportions as high as 10%. The total proportion of auxiliaries, including unnamed synthetic detergent compounds and builders, will normally not be more than 20% of the product and it is desirable that it is less than 10%, preferably less than 5%. The auxiliaries used will of course not affect the washing and softening effect of the liquid detergent, and will not promote instability in the product when left to dry. They will also not cause the production of unwanted deposits on the laundry.
The proportions of various components in the present liquid detergent will be within the range of 5 - 15%, preferably 6 - 12%, preferably 8 - 10% and most preferably preferably 9% of the sodium salt of the straight chain higher alkylbenzene sulphonate; 1.5 - 5%, preferably 1.5 - 3%, preferably 1.7 - 2.7% and most preferably 2% of the sodium salt of alkyl polyethoxy sulfate; 5 - 25%, preferably 9 - 22% and preferably 12 - 19% builder's salt; 5 - 20%, preferably 8 - 15%, preferably 10 - 14% and most preferably 12% swelling bentonite; 0.1 - 0.3% of a water-soluble polyacrylate' with a molecular weight in the range 1000 - 5000, preferably sodium polyacrylate with a molecular weight in the range 1000 - 3000, preferably 0.12 - 0.18% sodium polyacrylate with a molecular weight in the range 1500 - 2500, and most preferably 0.15% sodium polyacrylate with a molecular weight of approx. 2000; and 40 - 75%, preferably 50 - 70%, preferably 55 - 70% and most preferably approx. 60% water. Of the building salts, the proportions, when they are sodium tripolyphosphate and sodium carbonate, will usually be 7-15%, preferably 9-13% and preferably 11% of the tripolyphosphate, and 2-7%, preferably 3-6% and preferably 4% sodium carbonate; the ratio between tri-polyphosphate and carbonate being in the range 2:1 - 6:1.
De flytende vaskemidler kan lages ved på passende måte The liquid detergents can be prepared in a suitable manner
F.eks. kan polyfosfatet og carbonatet i fint oppdelt form, mixing the various components, preferably by adding the bentonite to a premix of most of the water and tripolyphosphate, carbonate, CMC and anionic detergent. E.g. can the polyphosphate and carbonate in finely divided form,

Deretter tilsettes den andelen av vannet som har vært holdt utenfor, til resten av det flytende vaskemid- usually sufficiently fine to pass a 93-µm sieve, mixed with and dissolved in most of the water, after which the CMC and anionic detergent may be mixed in, followed by the bentonite, polyacrylate and the rest of the ingredients in the mixture in any suitable order . Erfaring har vist at den ønskelige andel av vann som Experience has shown that the desirable proportion of water which
bør holdes tilbake og tilblandes sist i fremstillingsprosessen, normalt er 5 - 20% av det endelige, flytende vaskemiddel, should be retained and added last in the manufacturing process, normally 5 - 20% of the final liquid detergent,
10%. During the mixing of the various components with the aqueous medium, and especially when the bentonite is added and the remaining water is mixed in, it is important to
holde blandingen i bevegelse, f.eks. The mixer is preferably never switched off and the process is continuous, as it usually lasts approx. 3 - 30 minutes per portion. Although the water may be heated to promote dissolution of the various product components and to promote dispersion of the bentonite, this is not necessary and room temperature water, e.g. water at a tempera-
tur i området 15 - 30°C, som f.eks. 20 - 2 5°C, kan brukes. trip in the range 15 - 30°C, such as 20 - 25°C, can be used.
The viscosity of the present liquid detergent lies immediately after the completion of the manufacturing process in the range of approx. 1000 - 2000 centipoise, e.g. about.
1500 eps. 1500 eps. The liquid detergent is intended for packaging in and dispensing from relatively narrow-necked glass or plastic bottles, from which it must be pourable immediately and after normal storage. When the polyacrylate is omitted from the mixture, it has been discovered that commercially produced liquid detergents are initially thicker and become viscous on standing, so that the viscosity after approx. 1 month of storage at room temperature may have increased from approx. 3000 eps to over 18,000 eps.
At 18,000 eps, the liquid detergent is too thick to be satisfactorily pourable, and it is required that the consumer shake it or stir it to dilute it sufficiently so that it will be pourable from the bottle. It should go without saying that such a thickening property is undesirable. The preferred viscosity of the present liquid detergent is approx. 4000 eps 1000 eps, and such viscosities are found to be those preferred by consumers. By using the polyacrylate component and the compositions according to the present invention, as will be exemplified in example 1, it has been found that the viscosity after approx. 1 month's storage has increased to approx. 4000 eps (4050 eps after 28 days) and that further storage does not result in any significant further increase in viscosity. As previously stated, the concentration of the polyacrylate required to maintain such stabilized viscosity in the liquid detergent mixture according to the invention is in the range of 0.1 - 0.3% by weight. The concentration will preferably be 0.12 - 0.18%, preferably 0.15%. The described viscosities are measured using a viscometer of the Brook-field LVT type, using a spindle no. 2 for viscosities lower than 2000 eps, a spindle no. 3 for viscosities in the range 2000 - 9000 eps, and a spindle No. 4
All viscosities are measured at 12 rpm and at 25 °C.

About. Add 84% of the amount of water specified in the recipe to a suitable mixer, such as e.g. a vertical cylindrical container equipped with heating and cooling means and connected to a discharge pump, the amounts of polyphosphate and carbonate (with particle sizes passing a No. 160 sieve) specified in the recipe are added while stirring (with a Ligthnin-type mixer) , followed by CMC, and then the anionic detergent compounds are mixed in, after which the other ingredients are mixed in in any suitable order. The remainder of the water is added, thereby diluting the mixture, and the perfume is then added during mixing and the product is ready to be pumped out of the mixer and into narrow-necked end-use bottles that serve as dispensing containers. During the mixing operation, which in total takes approx. 9 minutes, the added substances and the final product are present at a temperature of approx. 20°C. In order to provide faster dissolution and faster supply of the components, the temperature of the water and other components that are supplied can in some cases be increased to 40 - 50°C so that the final product temperature can be approx. 30 - 40°C, as the mixing time in such cases can be reduced to approx. 5 or 6 minutes.
The liquid detergent obtained (at room temperature) has a viscosity of approx. 1550 eps and flows satisfactorily from a plastic detergent bottle with an outlet opening of approx. 2.5 cm. It has a pH of approx. 10.5. The liquid detergent is used to wash a mixed amount of soiled laundry, some of which includes cotton samples and polyester/cotton samples soiled with particulate dirt and with dirt containing sebum. The liquid detergent is added to the washing container in a standard washing machine as approx. half a cup of the liquid detergent is used per wash (to give a concentration of liquid detergent in the wash water which is approx. 0.18%). The temperature in the washing water is 21°C (to test the product's washing capabilities in "cold" water) and the water has a mixed calcium and magnesium hardness of approx. 150 ppm as CaSO^. After washing the dirty laundry and the fabric samples, they are "line-dried" or machine-dried (in a conventional tumble dryer).
The same operations as described above are repeated for a control detergent mixture where the sodium polyacrylate is omitted and is replaced with water.
Both the test mixture (the one containing sodium polyacrylate) and the control mixture are excellent fabric softening detergents, but the test product is far superior in terms of
Etter 28 an important property, maintaining a satisfactory viscosity during storage. Thus, after 5 days the viscosity of the test product is 2580 eps, while the viscosity of the control is 9400 eps; after 14 days the viscosities are 3400 eps and 3500 eps respectively; after 21 days the viscosities are respectively 3,500 eps and 14,500 eps and after 28 days respectively 4,050 and 18,500 eps. At 4050 eps the product is still pourable from the bottle, but at 18,500 eps it is not pourable and must be shaken or stirred in order to be emptied. After the 28
dager fra fremstillingen øker ikke viskositeten til forsøks-blandingen i noen betydelig grad, og eventuell økning i viskositeten til kontrollen er ikke av stor betydning ettersom produktet over 18.000 eps ikke lar seg markedsføre i noe fall. days from manufacture, the viscosity of the test mixture does not increase to any significant extent, and any increase in the viscosity of the control is not of great importance, as the product above 18,000 eps cannot be marketed in any case.
From the experiment it is obvious that the presence of very small proportions of sodium polyacrylate significantly helps to stabilize the viscosity of the described detergent compositions on storage, an effect previously unknown in the art.
The liquid experimental detergent has an attractive, light blue, uniform appearance and does not deposit in different layers of fabrics during storage.
In addition to being useful as a detergent for machine washing, the product according to the present invention can be used when washing clothes by hand and as a liquid for pre-treatment of heavily soiled areas on laundry. In order to provide maximum deposition of bentonite on the laundry and thereby improve the softening effects, the washing solution when washing clothes by hand is allowed to flow out of the washing container through a bottom outlet so that the solution passes through the laundry, after which the clothes can be rinsed in the normal way. When used as a pre-treatment of soiled areas on laundry, the liquid detergent is preferably applied at full strength (although dilutions may also be used) to soiled areas and rubbed into them.
Ved slik påføring og gniing hjelper bentonitten vaskemidlet By such application and rubbing, the bentonite helps the detergent
Slik mykning av stoffet kan bidra til mindre tilskitning av området og dårligere festing av smuss i fremtiden, særlig når de tilskitnede områder er skjortesnipper eller -mansjetter. to loosen and remove the dirt, whether it is greasy or particulate dirt, and at the same time some of the bentonite attaches to the fabric fibers in the laundry and thereby helps to soften washed fabric in such places. Such softening of the fabric can contribute to less soiling of the area and poorer adhesion of dirt in the future, especially when the soiled areas are shirt collars or cuffs.

Produktet fremstilles hoved-sakelig på samme måte som tidligere beskrevet. nitt ("Mineral Colloid 101"), the previously mentioned auxiliary substances and 55.7% tap water with 100 ppm hardness in the form of CaS03. The additional sodium carbonate improves the miscibility of the various components during the manufacturing process and the use of detergents does not adversely affect the product properties to any significant extent. The product is mainly produced in the same way as previously described.
The floatade detergent is a stable, pourable liquid with the desirable cleaning and softening properties described - for the liquid detergent according to example 1, whether it is used for machine washing or hand washing of clothes, or for pre-treatments thereof. The viscosity does not exceed 5000 eps after one month of storage at room temperature.
På samme måte fremstilles akseptable flytende vaskemidler når 3% natriumlaurylalkoholsulfat, 2% "Neodol 23-6,5" og 0,5% silikonholdig anti-skumningsolje innlemmes i produktet ved tilsetning til bestanddelene ifølge eksempel 1 In the same way, acceptable liquid detergents are produced when 3% sodium lauryl alcohol sulfate, 2% "Neodol 23-6.5" and 0.5% silicone-containing anti-foam oil are incorporated into the product by addition to the ingredients according to example 1
(i stedet for vann). (instead of water). Also when sodium citrate or potassium citrate is used as a replacement for the sodium carbonate (or when only partial recovery of such material is made, e.g. 30% recovery, with such citrates or trisodium nitrilotriacetate) usable liquid detergents with desirable properties corresponding to the properties of the previously described mixtures.
Eksempel 3 Example 3
A similar liquid detergent is prepared as according to example 1, but only 2% sodium carbonate is used in the mixture, the water content being increased accordingly. Although the sodium carbonate content is reduced, the mixture can still be processed into a final product with desirable properties that can be used as an extra heavy duty laundry detergent for washing cotton and synthetic fabrics and softening them, and which can also be used as a pre-treatment for such laundry. When 0.5% sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is added to the mixture in place of part of the water, improved whitening of the laundry is obtained without significant loss of softening power due to the anti-redeposition effect of CMC.

de forskjellige bestanddelene i det flytende vaskemiddel ifølge eksempel 1 endres 10% eller - 20% uten at man be-veger seg utenfor de områder som er angitt i beskrivelsen, the various components in the liquid detergent according to example 1 are changed by 10% or -20% without moving outside the areas indicated in the description,
A" stable, pourable, liquid detergents with a useful cleaning and softening effect are obtained. In some such products it may be desirable to include as much as 10% "Zeolite A"
eller opp til 4% natriumsilikat med Na20:SiO^-forhold på ca. 1:2,4, selv om silikatet ofte vil unngåes, og dersom zeolitten er tilstede, vil silikatet vanligvis utelates for å unngå avsetning av aggregater eller reaksjonsprodukter av zeolitt og silikat. or up to 4% sodium silicate with a Na20:SiO^ ratio of approx. 1:2,4, although the silicate will often be avoided, and if the zeolite is present, the silicate will usually be omitted to avoid the deposition of aggregates or reaction products of zeolite and silicate.
Til tross for tilstedeværelsen av en vesent- As can be seen from the description above and the design examples, the fabric softening, extra powerful, liquid detergents according to the invention are stable, uniform, appealing and functional. Despite the presence of an essential
Ved anvendelse av det flytende medium unngåes også, som tidligere nevnt, muligheten for at bentonitten ville bli deaktivert ved over-oppheting, slik som i et sprøytétørkingstårn. equal proportion of gelling agent (bentonite) in a liquid medium, they do not form unwanted gels and they remain pourable during storage. Despite long-term storage during which the slurried bentonite is exposed to close contact with surfactants and inorganic building salts in an aqueous medium, the bentonite does not agglomerate in an unfavorable manner and its softening effect on laundry is not destroyed. By using the aforementioned detergents and builders in an aqueous medium where sodium polyacrylate is also present, a liquid detergent is produced which, despite the content of a significant proportion of bentonite of the swelling type, remains liquid and pourable and retains its physical and chemical properties as allows it to be deposited on the laundry and acts as a lubricant for the fibers and thereby softens the laundry. Using the liquid medium also avoids, as previously mentioned, the possibility that the bentonite would be deactivated by overheating, such as in a spray drying tower.
De foreliggende flytende vaskemidler er, i tillegg The available liquid detergents are, in addition
Av den detaljerte opp- to be useful as products for machine and hand washing of clothes, also good for pre-treatments of colored parts of clothes, treatments where it is believed that the bentonite content helps to remove the colors and soften the colored area (and the product is also then used for washing purposes). Of the detailed up-
regning av egenskaper og fordeler ved foreliggende oppfinnelse ovenfor, forståes det således at oppfinnelsen representerer et betydelig fremskritt innen vaskemiddelblandinger ettersom den tillater lettvint anvendelse av et ikke-geldannende, flytende vaskemiddel både til å rengjøre og mykne tøyvask calculation of the properties and advantages of the present invention above, it is thus understood that the invention represents a significant advance in the field of detergent mixtures as it allows the easy use of a non-gelling, liquid detergent both to clean and soften laundry
(and to pre-treat it) using excellent anionic synthetic organic detergents and without having to incorporate with such anionic detergents harmful chemically reactive cationic substances such as quaternary ammonium salts, for the softening effect. The bentonites used are also not ecologically harmful, as the quaternary ammonium salts can be, and do not cause build-ups of unwanted fat deposits on laundry, which can often make it look discoloured, as the quaternary ammonium salts sometimes do.
Således Although the sodium salts and sodium compounds of the various components of the present liquid detergents have been described because they are particularly satisfactory and are commercially available, they can be replaced by the corresponding potassium compounds, at least in part, and these are also covered by the invention. Thus
kan kalium-vaskemidler, kalium-byggersalter, kalium-bentonitter og kalium-hjelpesalter brukes, og disse er ment å være omfattet sammen med natriumforbindelsene som "alkalimetall"-forbindelser i de angitte sammensetninger. potassium detergents, potassium builder salts, potassium bentonites and potassium auxiliary salts may be used, and these are intended to be included along with the sodium compounds as "alkali metal" compounds in the listed compositions.
