Abstract

La invención se refiere a un procedimiento para la separación de cobalto del litio presente en una carga que comprende baterías de iones de litio o productos relacionados, que comprende las etapas de: fundir la carga usando un horno de baño equipado con un soplete de plasma alimentado por aire sumergido para la inyección de gas de plasma en el fundido; definir y mantener un potencial redox del baño donde el cobalto se reduce al estado metálico y se reporta a una fase de aleación, y mediante lo cual el litio se oxida como Li2O y se reporta a la fase de escoria; decantar y separar de las fases. Este se caracteriza en que las etapas de reducción y de oxidación se llevan a cabo simultáneamente. Se obtiene una concentración baja adecuada de cobalto en la escoria.
