Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un proceso mejorado para la recuperación de litio de composiciones que también contienen aluminio. Un ejemplo de tales composiciones metalúrgicas es la escoria metalúrgica que se obtiene cuando se reciclan baterías de iones de litio o sus productos derivados usando un proceso de fundición pirometalúrgica. La lixiviación ácida de tal escoria, seguida por neutralización para precipitar aluminio lleva a pobres rendimientos de litio ya que el litio tiende a co-precipitar con aluminio. Se presenta un proceso en donde se precipita aluminio selectivamente usando una fuente de fosfato en un pH controlado preferiblemente entre 3 y 4.
