Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a sistemas y métodos para extraer iones metálicos de litio a partir de un mineral que contiene litio, como espodumeno o a partir de sales de litio. El mineral o sal de litio se suspende en una sal de hidróxido o eutéctico y se calienta para producir una suspensión de sal fundida que se usa para electrogalvanizar óxidos de metales de transición litiados en un electrodo. Se pueden aislar litio metálico o iones de litio de los óxidos de metales de transición litiados depositados. Puede incluirse un segundo mineral metálico en la suspensión y procesarse con el mineral de litio.
