Abstract
Un germoplasma de canola confiere en una semilla los rasgos de contenido alto de proteína y contenido bajo de fibra, en la cual la planta de canola produce una semilla que tiene, en promedio, por lo menos 68% de ácido oleico (C18:1) y menos de 3% de ácido linolénico (C18:3). Los rasgos de la semilla de canola también pueden incluir por lo menos 45% de proteína cruda y no más de 18% de contenido de fibra detergente ácida en una base de materia seca, libre de aceite. Algunas modalidades también comprenden uno o más rasgos que se seleccionan a partir del grupo que consiste de contenido polifenólico reducido y contenido incrementado de fósforo. En modalidades particulares, la invención se refiere a plantas de canola que comprenden dicho germoplasma y a productos de materia prima vegetal (por ejemplo semillas) producidos a partir de las mismas. Las plantas de canola que comprenden un germoplasma de la invención pueden exhibir características de composición de semilla favorables que las hacen particularmente valiosas como una fuente para harina de canola.
