Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un proceso para eliminar los componentes de los SOx de los gases de combustión y de otras corrientes de gases, caracterizado en que comprende el contacto de la corriente de gases con una composición sorbente calentada, en la cual el sorbente se selecciona del grupo consistente en una estructura en capas de un doble hidróxido de la fórmula: (M1-xIIMxIII(OH)2)(An-)x/n.yH2O) en la cual MII es un catión de metal divalente y MIII es un catión de metal trivalente seleccionados del grupo consistente en cationes de metales que forman óxidos metálicos y que son capaces de reaccionar con el SO2 para formar sulfitos metálicos y con el SO3 para formar sulfatos metálicos; A es un anión de capa intermedia de carga n- que comprende, cuando menos, un átomo de metal que provee la oxidación del bióxido de azufre en trióxido de azufre en una proporción suficiente para que la estructura en capas del doble hidróxido intersifique la oxidación del bióxido de azufre en trióxido de azufre bajo las condiciones de oxidación del bióxido de azufre; x es un valor comprendido entre 0.8 y 0.12 y un derivado termotratado del doble hidróxido.
