Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un proceso para preprar un polímero con base de poli-isocianato rígido y de celda cerrada, que tiene una densidad promedio de 6 a 150 Kg/m3 aproximadamente, que comprende reaccionar una composición de poliol con un poli-isocianato orgánico, en la presencia de un catalizador y un agente de insuflado conteniendo agua suficiente para proveer del 50 al 80 por ciento de moles teórico aproximadamente de dióxido de carbono, de los gases totales presentes en las celdas del polímero resultante, dicha composición de poliol comprende, por lo menos, 50 por ciento del peso total de la misma, de un poliol que tiene un número de hidroxilo de 100 a 500 aproximadamente y una funcionalidad promedio de, por lo menos, cuatro, caracterizado en que el poliol mencionado el el producto de reaccionar un carbohidrato o una mezcla de carbohidrato que consiste adicionalmente de un miembro seleccionado del grupo consistente de agua, glicerina, trimetilpropano y mezclas de los mismos, con un óxido de alquileno, y en que tal composición de polímero tiene un número de hidroxilo promedio de 100 a 500 aproximdamente; y en que el poli-isocianato mencionado se usa en una cantidad para proveer de 1.0 a 1.5 grupos de isocianato aproximadamente por hidrógeno activo, incluyendo los del agua presentes en el sistema de reacción.
