Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a método para producir un cuerpo compuesto de cerámica autoportante que comprende material de carburo de metal de Grupo IVA, caracterizado porque comprende a) establecer en un atmósfera sustancialmente inerte un cuerpo de metal madre en fusión seleccionado dentro del grupo que consiste en titanio hafnio y zirconio en contacto superficial con la masa permeable que comprende (i) una carga, y (ii) una fuente de carbono para reaccioar con dicho metal en fusión para formar el carburo del mismo, estando presente la fracción de carbono de dicha fuente de carbono en no más que una cantidad estequiométrica b) mantener dicho contacto superficial durante un tiempo suficiente para efectuar la infiltración de metal madre en fusión dentro de dicha masa permeable y permitir la reacción de dicho metal madre en fusión con dicha fuente de carbono para formar un carburo de metal madre; y c) contiuar dichas infiltración y reacción durante un tiempo suficiente para completar por lo menos sustancialmente dicha reacción y para producir con esto dicho cuerpo compuesto de cerámica autoportante.
