Abstract

본 발명은 투과채널의 새는 빛이 다른 채널을 조명하는 것을 방지한다.
광원(1)의 빛에서 다이크로익미러(2, 5)로 3원색(청색(B), 녹색(G), 적색(R))의 조명광(11B, 11G, 11R)이 분리되고, 각각 3원색의 광변조용 액정표시패널(4B, 4G, 4R)에 입사된다. 액정표시패널(4B, 4R)의 출사측에는 각각 수직편광판(8B, 8R)이 배치되고, 액정표시패널(4G)의 출사측에는 수평편광판(8G)이 배치된다. 액정표시패널(4B, 4R, 4G)로부터의 출사광은 다이크로익프리즘(9)에 입사된다. 그리고 액정표시패널(4R)로부터의 적색영상광은, 적색반사막(9a, 9b)에 의해 반사되고, 액정표시패널(4B)로부터의 청색영상광은, 청색반사막(9c, 9d)에 의해 반사되고, 또한 액정표시패널(4G)로부터의 녹색영상광은, 적색반사막(9a, 9b)과 청색반사막(9c, 9d)을 어느 것이나 투과하고, 이들의 영상광이 투사렌즈(10)에 입사하고, 투사된다.

제1도는 본 발명이 적용되는 투사형 액정표시장치의 일예의 구성도이다.

Claims (5)

  1. 적어도 3장의 투과형 액정표시패널과 4분할의 다이크로익프리즘을 가지며, 상기 3장의 액정표시패널을 각각 3원색의 영상신호로 구동하는 동시에, 상기 3장의 액정표시패널을 각각 3원색의 원색광으로 조명함으로써, 각각 휘도 변조된 3채널의 투과영상광을 얻고, 이들의 투과영상광을 상기 다이크로익프리즘을 사용하여 합성하고 이 합성영상광을 투사렌즈를 거쳐서 투사하는 투사형 액정표시장치에 있어서, 상기 투과영상광의 1개의 채널은 상기 다이크로익프리즘을 투과하고, 다른 두개의 채널은 상기 다이크로익프리즘에서 반사되어서, 상기 투과영상광의 합성이 행하여지는 동시에, 상기 디이크로익프리즘이 투과되는 1개의 채널의 투과영상광의 편광축을 제1축으로 하고, 상기 다이크로익프리즘에서 반사되는 다른 2개의 채널의 투과영상광의 편광축을 제2축으로 하고, 이들 제1 및 제2편광축이 서로 직교하여 구성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 투사형 액정표시장치.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1축은 수평축이며, 상기 제2축은 수직축인 것을 특징으로 하는 투사형 액정표시장치.
  3. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1축은 수평축에 대하여 시계방향으로 θ도의 축이며, 상기 제2축은 수평축에 대하여 반시계방향으로 90-θ도인 것을 특징으로 하는 투사형 액정표시장치.
  4. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1축과 제2축을 교환한 것을 특징으로 하는 투사형 액정표시장치.
  5. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 액정표시패널의 출사측에 각각 편광축 회전소자를 설치하고, 이들의 편광축 회전소자에 의해, 상기 다이크로익프리즘을 투과하는 1개의 채널의 투과영상광의 편광축과, 상기 다이크로익프리즘에서 반사되는 다른 2개의 채널의 투과영상광의 편광축과를 서로 직교시키는 것을 특징으로 하는 투사형 액정표시장치.
