Abstract

상대적으로 낮은 후방 산란 확산자와 거울 반사성 또는 약하게 산란하는 변환기를 결합하여 종이류 디스플레이에 대한 소망된 스크린 전면 특성을 얻는다. 용적 또는 표면 부조형인 확산자는 디스플레이 셀 형태로 둘러쌓인다. 변환기는 액정, 일렉트로크로믹 또는 전기영동형과 같은 수개의 전자-광학 활성 재료 중의 어느 하나이다.

제2도는 램베르트식 확산자와 비교되고 둘다 수직 입사로 조사되는 제2도의 디스플레이에 의해 확산된 각의 함수인 빛의 강도의 그래프도.

Claims (14)

  1. 다수의 픽셀을 가지는 반사 디스플레이 장치에 있어서, 제1기판; 제2기판; 상기 제1기판과 상기 제2기판 사이에 배치된 전자-광학 활성 재료; 디스플레이 셀을 한정하고 상기 재료의 부분들을 선택적으로 활성화하기 위해서 상기 제1기판 및 상기 제2기판과 연관된 전극들; 및 상기 디스플레이 장치의 확산 반사 특성을 얻기 위해 상기 디스플레이 셀내에 배치된 확산자를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1기판은 상기 디스플레이의 전면 기판이며, 상기 확산자는 상기 제1기판의 후면에 배치되는 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  3. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제2기판은 상기 디스플레이의 후면 기판이며, 상기 확산자는 상기 제2기판의 후면에 배치되는 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  4. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 확산자는 표면 부조 홀로그램(surface relief hologram)인 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  5. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 확산자는 용적 홀로그램 (volume hologram)인 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  6. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1기판과 연관된 전극은 광학적으로 투명하며 상기 확산자는 상기 기판과 상기 전극 사이에 배치된 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  7. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 픽셀은 거울 반사적 (specularly reflective)인 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  8. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 픽셀은 확산자의 사용에 의해 그 범위가 증가하는 좁은 범위의 각에 걸쳐 확산 반사하는 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  9. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 확산자는 입사광의 3,5% 또는 그 미만을 상기 확산자상에 후방 산란시키는 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  10. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 확산자는 입사광의 0.3% 또는 그 미만을 상기 확산자상에 후방 산란시키는 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  11. 제1항에 있어서 상기 전자-광학 활성 재료는 액정인 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  12. 제11항에 있어서, 상기 액정은 PDLC, PSCT및 다이 게스트-호스트 재료(dye guest-host material) 중의 하나인 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  13. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 전자-광학 활성 재료는 일렉트로크로믹 재료(electrochromic material)인 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
  14. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 전자-광학 활성 재료는 전기 영동 재료(electrophoretic material)인 것을 특징으로 하는 반사 디스플레이 장치.
