엔진 제조자들은 상기 값들이 엔진의 정밀 설정에 충분하지 않다는 것에 동의한다. 그 이유는, 상기 값들은 연료 질을 나타낼 뿐, "연료-엔진" 적합성을 고려하지 않기 때문이다. 예를 들어, 조사(research) 및 엔진 옥탄가는 "핑킹" 문제의 해결에 관련이 없다고 말할 수 있다. 사실, 상기 수들은, 50년도 더 이전의, 21세 기의 엔진에 필요한 정보를 수행하기에는 더 이상 적합하지 않은 표준화된 엔진 상에서 측정된다.
게다가, 연료의 로드(road) 옥탄가는 다음에 의존한다:
- 사용되는 연료
- 수송 수단 엔진
- 실험적 조건, 예를 들어, 엔진 속도
1971년부터, 다양한 운송 수단에 대해 시험하여, 동일한 연료의 로드 옥탄가가 12 포인트(point) 이상으로 변한다는 것이 증명되었다 (윌리엄 지.알.(Williams G.R.), 라가드 에프.(LAGARDE F.), 혼벡 디.디.(HORNBECK D.D.), "내부 연소 엔진의 고속 핑킹(pinking)에 영향을 미치는 연료 파라미터에 대한 조사", 자동차 엔지니어, 1971년 8월-9월).
유사하게, 1975년에, 동일한 엔진에서의 다양한 연료의 작용에 대한 연구는 엔진에 대한 연료의 효과가 6 포인트 이상으로 로드 옥탄가에 영향을 미친다는 것을 나타낸다 (듀발 에이.(Duval A.), 귀벳 제이.씨.(Guibet J.C.), "고속 핑킹에 대한 실험적 연구", 프랑스 석유 학회 검토, 1975년 5월-6월).
따라서, 물리-화학적 특성 및 질이 연관되지 않으며, 주유소에서의 연료도 매우 다양하므로, 연료 엔진 결합은, 현재, 전체적으로 최적화될 수 없다.
상기 편차를 고려하고 현재의 유효한 정성적 정보의 무관성을 보상하도록, 제조자들은, 배기 가스에 대한 법령을 따르면서, 운송 수단에 손상을 주지 않고 가능한 최저 소비를 위해, 전자 또는 디지털 시스템 발전 과정의 많은 면허(concessions)를 실행해야 한다.
이것은 제조자들이 특히 연료의 좋지 않은 질을 보상하도록 중요한 안전 마진(margin)을 제공하는 이유이며, 차를 구입할 때 제공되는 대량 생산된 전자 또는 디지털 시스템이 유일한 절충안인 이유이다.
이것은 기-기록된(pre-recorded) 모델 및 매핑이, 엔진의 작동 범위를 통해 "상당히 우수한" 효율을 보장하도록 일반적으로 만들어지며, 차가 판매되는 지리학적 지역 내에 그룹지어진 국가들 내에 연료의 평균적인 조성 및 질에 기반하는 이유이다.
그러나, 반-공해 표준은 항상 엄격해지고 있으며, 차 제조자들은, 엔진 성능에 손상을 입히지 않으면서, 내구 기간을 통해서, 각각의 판매되는 차에 대해, 배기 가스 내 이산화탄소와 같은 규제된 배출물이 감소하도록 시도하고 있다. 따라서, 탱크 내 연료의 고유의 질을 고려하여, 엔진 설정을 향상시킬 필요가 있다. 고려되는 정성적(qualitative) 파라미터들은 엔진 설정 향상에 더 관련있는 것에 의해 표준화된 물리-화학적 특성들과 구별되어야 한다.
엔진 조정을 위한 연료-알콜 혼합물의 조성을 결정하기 위한 방법과 관련된 문헌 프랑스 특허공보 FR-2 542 092호는 가솔린 유형의 연료의 분석에 제한되며, 알콜이 첨가되고 정성적 측정이 아닌 단지 정량적 측정을 제공하고, 따라서, 연료 내 알콜의 비율을 결정하는데 제한된다.
미국특허공보 US-5 126 570호, US- 5 262 645호 및 US-5 239 860호에 대해서도 동일하며, 상기 방법의 설명에서, 문헌들의 적용은 근적외선 처리에 의한, 가솔린-알콜 혼합물 내 알콜 농도의 정량적인 측정에 제한된다.
공제공개공보 WO-94/08226 은 근적외선 분광학에 의한 연료 특성을 결정하기 위한 온-보드(on-board) 방법에 관련된다. 이 문헌은 엔진 설정과 거의 관련없는 표준화된 물리-화학적 특성에 제한된다. 게다가, 연료의 물리-화학적 질을 결정하도록 근적외선 분광학을 이용하는 것은 모델 측정(calibration) 단계가 필요하다. 상기 측정은 모델의 효력(strength)을 위해서 뿐만 아니라 예측의 정확성을 위해서도 매우 중요하다. 사실, 1970년대 말 이후, 많은 치미오메트릭(chimiometrics) 작업 및 간행물들은, 근적외선 스펙트라, 수학적이며 통계적인 모델로부터 액체 특성을 예측하고 관련시키기 위한 모델들을 개발하도록 실행되기 위한 근적외선 분광학 이론, 기구들 및 방법론을 제공한다. 그러나, 근적외선에 적용되는 치미오메트릭 전문가들은, 모델이 샘플링 표에 따른 제한된 변동 범위 내에서만 연속적이며 정확하다는 사실에 모두 동의한다. 국가, 대륙 또는 전 세계에서 상업적으로 입수가능한 모든 연료에 대해서 일반적이고, 충분히 확고하며 정확한 모델의 설정은 물리-화학적 특성의 예측에 기반해서는 안된다. 상기 연구 결과는 국제공개공보 WO-94/08226 의 범위를 제한하며, 상기 문헌의 방법은 겨우 적용될 수 있다.
문헌 "디젤 엔진 설정을 위한 유체 상태 모니터링 센서"에 대해서도 동일하며, 상기 문헌의 적용 분야는 가스-오일-에스테르(ester) 혼합물 내 에스테르 (산소 화합물) 농도의 분광학에 의한 정량적인 측정에 제한된다.
마지막으로, 엔진 설정을 향상시키도록 연료 질을 측정하기 위한 온-보드 방법에 관련된 미국 특허공개공보 US2004/000275호는 표준화된 물리-화학적 특성들에 제한되며, 엔진 설정에 대한 제한된 관련성을 갖는다. 게다가, 이 문헌은 상기 특성들을 측정하기 위한 적합한 온-보드 방법을 설명하지 않는다.
1985년에 발행된 엘. 지. 웨어.(L. G. WEYER's) 또는 1992년에 발행된 "근적외선 분석의 핸드북", 또는 1996년의 제롬 워크맨 제이알(Jerome WORKMAN JR) 또는 1999년의 엠. 밸루어(M. VALLEUR)의 기사에 기재된 석유 화학 및 정제에서의 분광 적용에 관한 특정 간행물과 같은, 근적외선에 관한 참고 문헌이 인용될 수 있다.
본 발명의 목적은 연료 성분 분자 구조의 분석에 기반한 연료의 상응하는 정성적 분석의 단계를 포함하는 엔진 작동을 최적화하기 위한 방법을 제공하는 것에 의해, 연료-엔진 결합에 적합한, 연료의 상응하는 정성적인 측정을 결정하기 위한 요구를 달성하는 것이다. 상기 분석은 전자 또는 디지털 시스템이 상기 측정된 결과에 따라 엔진 분사, 연소 또는 후-처리(post-treatment)의 파라미터, 원리(law) 및 매핑(mapping)을 설정할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 실시간으로 설정하는 것을 가능하게 한다.
이를 위해, 본 발명은 엔진 분사, 연소 또는 후-처리를 위한 하나 이상의 파라미터 또는 하나 이상의 원리 또는 하나 이상의 매핑을 병합하는 전자 또는 디지털 시스템에 의해 설정되는 열 엔진의 작동을 최적화하기 위한 방법에 관한 것으로, 상기 방법은 충전 시스템, 연료 탱크, 펌프, 연료 필터, 및 연료 탱크로의 엔진 연료 시스템 및 회귀(return) 회로를 포함하는 엔진의 연료 회로 내 위치한 하나 이상의 센서로부터 연료 조성을 분석하는 단계, 및 상기 분석의 결과에 따라, 분사, 연소 또는 후-처리를 위한, 상기 파라미터, 원리 또는 매핑을 선택 또는 수정하는 단계를 포함하되, 상기 방법은 연료 조성의 분석 단계가 연료를 구성하는 탄화수소의 분자 구조를 분광 분석하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 방법은 분자 구조의 결정을 통해 연료 질의 일반적인 측정을 얻는 것을 가능하게 한다. 따라서, 연료의 하나 또는 다수의 표준화된 물리-화학적 특성/특성들이 결정되지 않아도 되므로, 옥탄가, 세탄가, 증기압, 증류 곡선, 및 산화제 내용물과 같은, 표준화된 물리-화학적 특성들의 사용 및 모델화에서 기인하는 문제들이 극복된다.
특정 실시예에 따르면, 분광 분석은 연료의 근적외선 분석으로 구성된다.
사실, 근적외선은 매우 잘 반응하는 방법이며 근적외선 스펙트럼은 산출(product) DNA로 간주될 수 있으므로, 근적외선은 분자 구조의 분석에 특히 적합하다. 이 스펙트럼을 통해 추출된 분자 구조는 엔진 설정을 위해 매우 유용하다. 게다가, 상기 근적외선은 특히 용이하게 반복될 수 있다.

도 1을 참조하면, 엔진 분사, 연소 또는 후-처리의 파라미터, 원리 및 매핑에 의해 구동되는 열 엔진의 작동을 최적화하기 위한 방법이 설명된다.
연료 탱크(2), 탱크 충전 시스템(3) 및 연료 회로(4)를 포함하는 연소 엔진은 연료 회로(1)에 의해 연료가 제공된다. 회로는, 예를 들어 하나 이상의 연료 펌프(5), 하나 이상의 연료 필터(6), 및 연료 탱크(11)로의 회귀 회로를 포함한다.
본 발명에 따른 방법은, 주요 성분이 탄소, 수소 및 산소이며, 부가적이든 아니든, 연료 및 생물 연료(bio fuel)의 표준을 충족하는 어떠한 종류의 연료(가스, 액화 가스, 가솔린, 등유, 가스-오일, 연료 오일)에도 적합하다.
본 발명에 따른 방법은 연료 분자 구조에 따라 엔진 분사, 연소 또는 후-처리를 위한 파라미터, 원리 또는 매핑을 선택하거나 수정하는 것으로 구성된다. 이를 위해, 연료를 구성하는 탄화수소의 분광 분석을 이용하여, 엔진에 제공되는 연료의 분자 구조가 분석된다. 상기 구조의 결정은 연료를 구성하는 물질과 전자기 방사(radiation) 사이의 상호 작용을 측정하는 것으로 이루어진다.
상기 분광 분석은 연료 조성의 근적외선 분석으로 이루어진다. 또한, 동일한 원리에 따라, 근(near), 중(medium) 및/또는 원(far) 적외선 분광 분석 및/또는 NMR 분석 및/또는 자외선 분광 분석 또는 여러가지의 분석들이 동시에 수행될 수 있다.
상기 근적외선 분석은 이하에서 설명된다:
분광 센서(7)는 연료 회로(1) 내에 위치하며 엔진의 전자 또는 디지털 시스템에 연결된다. 근적외선 분석의 경우에, 상기 센서(7)는 광원(8), 광 분리 시스템, 연료 샘플링 셀(9), 감광성 탐지 시스템(10) 및 특정 목적용(dedicated) 컴퓨터(20)로 구성된다. 상기 특정 목적용 컴퓨터(20)는 센서(7)의 정확한 작동을 설정하고 조정하도록, 일련(sequences)의 측정의 설정을 가능하게 한다. 컴퓨터(20)는 근적외선 스펙트럼의 처리에 관련된 모든 계산을 수행하는 것을 가능하게 하는 모델들을 포함할 수 있다. 근적외선의 경우에, 센서(7)는 동일하게 하나의 광원과 하나의 탐지기, 또는 다수 광원과 하나의 탐지기를 포함할 수 있다. 분산성 또는 비-분산성 근적외선의 경우에, 다색의 근적외선 광원 또는 적외선 발광 다이오드, 간섭 또는 크리스탈 메인 필터(crystal mains filters) 또는 푸리에 변환 시스템을 포함하는 기구를 사용할 수 있다. 센서(7)는 다중 또는 순차적 액세스 센서가 될 수 있다. 모델들은 하나 이상의 현존 또는 특정 목적용 컴퓨터에 제공될 수 있다.
도 2에 도시된 제 2 실시예에 따르면, 분광계의 다른 구성요소의 샘플링 시스템을 변경하도록 적합한 광섬유(13) 및 광학 중심 프로브(optical centering probe, 14)의 사용이 가능하다.
센서(7)는, 각각 주어진 파장에 대한 광 세기를 기록하는 수백 개의 고-감도 광다이오드로 구성된 배열을 갖는 근적외선 분광계가 될 수 있다. 센서(7)를 구성하는 탐지기는 실리콘(Si) 또는 고 감도 복합형 합급(InGaAs, InAs, InSb, Pbs, PbSe)에 기반한 반도체이다. 상기 탐지기는 냉각되거나 아닐 수 있다.
센서(7)는 탱크(2)(도 1 및 2의 15 위치), 탱크 충전 시스템(3)(도 1 및 2의 16 위치), 엔진 연료 피드 회로(4)에 배치될 수 있다. 후자의 경우에, 상기 센서(7)는 펌프(5)와 필터(6) 사이에 배치될 수 있으며(17 위치) 또는 필터(6) 후방에 배치될 수 있다(18 위치). 또한 상기 센서는 연료 회귀 회로(11)에 배치될 수 있다(19 위치).

센서(7)는, 1 cm- 1 에서 20 cm-1, 바람직하게는 4 cm-1의 조정가능한 (정확도 ), 스펙트럼 분해능을 갖는다.
센서(7)의 광학 및 샘플링 시스템은 세척의 목적으로 분해하지 않아도 되는 자정식(self-cleaning)이다.
엔진 작동을 관리하는 전자 또는 디지털 시스템(12)을 형성하는, 엔진 컴퓨터에 의해 전자 박스로 어드레스(address) 지정하는 테이블은, 엔진 분사, 연소 또는 후-처리의 파라미터, 원리 및 매핑, 및 연료 내 순수 탄화수소 군(families)의 존재와 관련된 연료 분자 구조의 특정 색인 마커(indicial marker)와 연결되는 다중 입력 매트릭스이다.
상기 탄화수소 군은, 예를 들어, 다음과 같이 분류될 수 있다:
포화된 탄화수소 (선형 또는 분지된 개방 탄소 사슬 또는 폐쇄 사슬 알칸);

예를 들어, 연료 근적외선 스펙트럼의 흡수율은 고려된(considered) 파장을 갖는 영역 내에서 측정된다. 분자 구조를 산출하기 위해, 이중 입력 매트릭스에 정보를 제공하도록 공지된 계량분석화학(chemometrics) 방식에 따라, 각각의 선택된 파장에 대해 측정된 흡수율의 값들(values)은 기준 데이터 베이스에서 미리 조정된 수학적이며 통계적인 일반적 모델들에 입력된다.

예로서 언급한 가솔린 EN 228의 경우에, 가스 컬럼 그룹 탄화수소의 탄소 수는 4 원자보다 적다.

운송 수단 내, 센서(7)에 의한 연료 분자 구조의 온-보드 분석동안, 상기 전자 또는 디지털 시스템은 탱크 내 연료의 분자 구조에 대한 업데이트된 정보를 수용하여, 엔진에 제공되는 연료에 따른 설정을 최적화하도록, 설정, 원리 및 매핑을 선택하거나 수정하는 것을 가능하게 한다.
엔진 분사, 연소 또는 후-처리를 위한 최적의 파라미터, 원리 및/또는 매핑은 다양한 센서 및 탐지기, 또한 센서(7)에서 판독되는 일반적인 정보에 따른 전자 또는 디지털 시스템에 의해 선택된다.
엔진의 파라미터, 원리 및 매핑은 연료 소비를 최적화하며, 엔진 이소(iso) 성능에 대한 배기 가스 배출을 제한하거나, 이소(iso) 소비 및 배출에 대한 엔진 성능을 향상시키도록 선택된다.
연료 분자 구조 분석에 관련된 정보 저장의 단계는 상기 분자 구조의 이력(history)을 갖도록 이용된다.
엔진 분사, 연소 및 후-처리의 파라미터, 원리 및/또는 매핑의 디폴트(default) 모델은 연료 분자 구조의 이력으로부터 생성된다.
따라서, 센서(7)에 의해 판독된 정보의 부재 하에, 엔진 분사, 연소 및 후-처리의 파라미터, 원리 및/또는 매핑은 연료 분자 구조의 이력에 따른 디폴트에 의해 선택된다. 상기 이력은, 하나 이상의 경과 시간 기간/기간들에서, 가장 적절한 이동 평균(moving average)에 따라 선택된 엔진 분사, 연소 및 후-처리의 파라미터, 원리 및/또는 매핑 및 연료 분자 구조의 이동 평균을 생성하는 것을 가능하게 한다.
측정은 센서(7)에 의해 정기적인 시간 간격으로 수행될 수 있다. 또한 탱크(2) 내 연료 용적에 대한 탐지기도 제공될 수 있다. 다음으로, 측정 작동의 시작은 드라이버(driver)가 탱크를 채우는 각각의 시간에 발생하도록 지시될 수 있다.
