하지만, 사실상 모든 무선 데이터 서비스가 지니는 한 가지 문제점은, 애플리케이션의 네트워크 "폴링(polling)" 유형으로 이들 서비스를 액세스하는 데 있어 어려움이 있다는 점이다. 본 명세서에서 폴링{또는 "데이터를 끌어당기는 것(data pulling)"}은 요청기에 의해 필요한 디지털 데이터를 끌어당기거나 검색하기 위해 모바일 유닛과 교신하는 것을 가리킨다. 본 발명은 무선 단말기로부터 요청기로의 데이터의 다운로드에 국한되지 않는다. 요청된 패킷 데이터 세션은 또한 무선 단말기로의 정보의 다운로드에 사용될 수 있다.

도 2를 참조하면, 발신 또는 메시지 흐름도는 본 발명에 따른 방법론을 또한 예시하고 있다. 전술한 바와 같이, 본 발명은 무선 통신 네트워크를 통한 데이터 통신, 특히 IP 세션과 같은 네트워크 개시 데이터 세션을 유발하기 위해 음성 채널을 사용하는 것에 이용 가능하다.

Claims (20)

  1. 원격 무선 스테이션을 폴링(polling)하는 방법으로서,
    요청기(requester)로부터 상기 원격 무선 유닛에 음성 호출을 개시하는 단계,
    상기 요청기와 상기 원격 무선 유닛 사이에 음성 호출이 성립된 후, 상기 음성 호출이 성립되는 무선 음성 채널을 경유하여, 상기 요청기가 상기 원격 무선 유닛으로 디지털 폴링 메시지를 전송하는 단계,
    목표 자원을 식별하는 디지털 폴링 메시지에 페이로드를 포함하는 단계 및
    상기 디지털 폴링 메시지에 응답하여, 상기 원격 무선 유닛에서 상기 목표 자원과 패킷 데이터 세션을 개시하는 단계를 포함하며,
    상기 목표 자원은 상기 페이로드에서 운반된 URL에 의해 명시되거나 상기 페이로드에서 운반된 IP 주소에 의해 명시되는,
    원격 무선 스테이션을 폴링하는 방법.

  11. 무선 통신 시스템으로서,
    원격 통신 네트워크(telecommunications network)에 결합된 컴퓨터,
    폴링 메시지를 원격 통신 네트워크의 음성 채널을 통해 무선 원격 유닛에 보내기 위해 상기 컴퓨터에서 실행 가능한 폴링 요청기 애플리케이션,
    음성 호출을 수신하기 위한 무선 원격 통신 능력을 가지는 무선 원격 유닛
    을 포함하고,
    상기 원격 유닛은 상기 음성 채널로부터 상기 폴링 메시지를 복구하기 위한 수단과, 상기 복구된 폴링 메시지에 응답하여 데이터 세션을 개시하기 위한 수단을 가지며,
    상기 폴링 요청기 애플리케이션은 상기 폴링 메시지에서 페이로드를 전송하고 상기 페이로드에서 목표 네트워크 자원을 식별하는,
    무선 통신 시스템.

    상기 복구된 요청 메시지는 목표 자원의 네트워크 주소를 포함하는,
    무선 유닛으로부터 데이터를 업로드하는 방법.
