Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of an apparatus, to simplify the operation and to decrease a cost, by cutting an AC power source when quenching occurs in a superconductive coil, and feeding back the current of the superconductive coil to the AC power source through a series circuit of a switching element and a Zener diode. CONSTITUTION:When a permanet current switch 2 is quenched, a permanent current, which is circulated between a coil 1 and the permanent switch 2, flows into a transformer 4. A primary input to the transformer 4 is automatically cut with an overcurrent relay. A base current for a power transistor 6 becomes also zero. At this time, magnetic energy in the coil 1 is mostly consumed in a Zener diode 7 and the power transistor 6. Voltage drops at both parts are not too large. Therefore a large voltage is not generated across both ends of the coil 1. This is favorable for insulating the coil 1 and the permanent switch 2. Since the coil 1 is demagnetized relatively slowly, the AC heating amount of the coil 1 and a cryostat 3 is small.
