Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent an unexpected chemical reaction between a powder material or sintered product and a metallic cylinder, by forming a thick passive layer on the inner surface of a stainless cylinder to be filled with the powder material, filling the cylinder with the powder material and processing plastically the latter. CONSTITUTION:A passive layer is formed on the surface of a stainless cylinder, e.g., by means of application of current to the stainless under an atmosphere containing HNO3, permanganic acid or dichromic acid etc. The order of 0.1mum is sufficient for the thickness of the passive layer. The object to be sintered may be a product of material difficult to be processed, such as ceramics, sintered alloy etc. Specially, however, it is effective to use a wire of sintered superconducting material of composite oxide group. Because the passive layer is formed on the inner surface of the stainless cylinder, the passive is not broken by plastic processing and an chemical reaction with the metallic cylinder can be prevented.
