Abstract

PURPOSE: The insoluble ceramic electrode of particularly high strength and superior conductivity and corrosion resistance with comprises adding one or more kinds of metals assuming pentad or hexad valency at the specified ratio to TiO2.
CONSTITUTION: Powder of oxide or salt of metals assuming pentad or hexad valency such as V, Nb, Ta, W, Mo, Sb, Si is mixed in TiO2 so that said metals are contained at 0.01W20atom%. Next, this mixed powder is molded to the specified shape by such a method as pressure molding or extrusion, after which it is sintered in the atmosphere by which TiO2 is not reduced to lower oxides such as Ti3O5 and in which oxygen partial pressure is 0.1 atmospheric pressure or less. As a result of this, the ceramic electrode composed of rutile type TiO2 of density 93% or more of theoretical density and specific resistance 1Ω-cm or less is obtained. This ceramic electrode is used for the electro-chemical applications used in aqueous solution.
