Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of scum generated at the time of melting by heating and to improve the productivity of magnetic recording medium, by providing a composition which is composed principally of Co and in which respective contents of Al and C are limited and also the content of an auxiliary consisting of Ni, Cr, and V is limited. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic alloy material has a composition which is composed principally of Co and contains <=30wt.% auxiliary consisting of one or more kinds among Ni, Cr, and V and in which the contents of Al and C are limited to <=0.01wt.%. When the above alloy material is used for forming magnetic recording medium by a dry process by means of vacuum vapor deposition, the generation of scum is prevented and, as a result, the magnetic recording medium excellent in mass productivity and having superior quality can be obtained.
