Abstract
PURPOSE:To accurately measure a low electric field by making a linear polarized light wave incident while matching its plane of polarization with the main axis of a polarization plane maintaining optical fiber, and interposing a 1/8-wavelength plate between the polarization plane maintaining optical fiber and a Pockels element. CONSTITUTION:Light from a light source 1 is made incident so as to match with the main axis of the polarization plane maintaining optical fiber 4, guides to the other end part of the optical fiber, and made incident on the 1/8-wavelength plate 12 arranged slantingly by 45 deg. to the main axis of projection light. This is made incident on a Pockels element 6, the generated phase-modulated wave is reflected by a reflecting mirror 7, guided again and phase-modulated by the Pockels element 6, and biased optically by the 1/8-wavelength plate 12, so that the light is made incident on the polarization plane maintaining optical fiber 4. This is branched by the half-mirror and transduced into light intensity by an analyzer 13, and converted photoelectrically by an analyzer 9 to detect the object electric field value.
