Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize inexpensive, small-sized and simple constitution by equipping a polarizing beam splitter and by controlling a voltage applied between electrodes of an electrooptical element. CONSTITUTION:An optical signal, when transmitted via an optical fiber cable 10, is sent to an electrooptical element 13. Simultaneously, another optical signal sent via an optical fiber cable 11 is reflected by the 1st polarizing beam splitter 12 to send polarized light S to an electrooptical element 13. In this case, when a voltage V is applied to this element 13, both the incident optical signals are turned by 90 deg. respectively to convert the light of P polarization incident via the cable 10 into polarized light S, and the light of S polarization incident via the cable 11 into polarized light P. As a result, the 2nd polarizing beam splitter 14 reflects the former converted light out totally, and transmits only the latter converted light, which reaches an optical fiber cable 15. Namely, only the light passed through the cable 11 is selected and emitted to the cable 15.
