Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress the disturbance in the envelope of a reproduction output waveform with a single head system by constituting head in such a manner that the effective magnetic permeability across the track width direction is large in the central part of the track width and decreases toward the end part of the track width in a main core part. CONSTITUTION:The main core part is formed by alternately laminating thin magnetic film layers 2 and nonmagnetic insulating layers 3 on a nonmagnetic substrate 1 by a sputtering method. The thin magnetic film layers 6, 10 which constitute the end parts of the track width in this main core part are constituted to have the effective magnetic permeability of about several 10-several 100 and the thin magnetic film layers 7-9 which constitute the central part of the track width have the high effective magnetic permeability of several 1,000. Sufficient recording is, therefore, executed over the entire track width at the time of recording at a high magnetization level and since the effective magnetic permeability when the magnetization level is extremely low is large in the central part of the track width at the time of reproducing, the fluctuation in the envelope of the reproduction output waveform is highly minimized even if the deviation in the tracking by the unstability of the traveling system arises.
