Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce a head-positioning error when forming a core of a magnetic material film, by providing the core with an easy magnetizarion axis perpendicular to a magnetif medium surface at both terminals in a track width direction and a hard magnetization axis at its center. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic layer 1 is divided into three regions I-III; and in a method of giving magnetic anisotropy such as vapor deposition, regions I and III at both sides are formed in a direction (arrow P) perpendicular to track width W1, and region II is given an easy magnetization axis of width W2 in a track width W1 direction (arrow Q). This layer is formed with magnetic field application directions alternated by mask vapor deposition. In write operation, magnetic layers operate effectively in all regions I-III and reproduction is done in region II whose permeability is secured. In this way, the head positioning error of a high-density and narrow-track head is reduced to improve S/N, thereby reducing crosstalk.
