Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a single crystal of high purity without quality reduction caused by leaching or evaporation of impurities in the carbon material at elevated temperature, by forming one or more of the graphite crucible, graphite heaters and graphite insulating cylinder from a high-purity graphite material of the total ashes regulated. CONSTITUTION:In the apparatus, at least one of the graphite crucible 1, graphite heaters 2, and graphite insulating cylinder 3 is made from a high-purity graphite of less than 5ppm total ash content, which is produced by firing, graphitized, and purifying under vacuum, as heated by the high-frequency method. The graphite is preferably isotropic or less than 1.1 anisotropy. At least a part of the material forming the insulator 4 between the heater 2 and the outer wall of the reactor, the dumping material 5 between the inner crucible and the graphite crucible, the clamps 13 for the electrodes are preferably made from the high-purity graphite.
