Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a device small in size and to enable the execution of highly precise detection, by forming a magnetoresistance element in a first direction on an insulated substrate and by making a current to be measured flow through a conductor wiring provided in a second direction set at an angle of 45 deg. to the first direction. CONSTITUTION:A magnetoresistance element 12 constructed on an insulated substrate 11 is so formed as to extent in a specified direction, e.g. in a first direction inclined at an angle of 45 deg.. On the substrate 11 an insulating film 14 is so formed as to contain the part of the element 12. On the insulating film 14, a layer of a first conductor wire 15 extending in the direction set at an angle of 45 deg. to a first direction of extension of the element 12 is formed. On an insulating film 16 formed further on the wiring 15, a layer of a second conductor wire 17 is formed in the direction forming 90 deg. to the direction of the wiring 15. A current I to be measured is made to flow through the wiring 17, and a protecting film 18 is formed on the wiring 17. Meanwhile, a bias current is made to flow through the wiring 15 and a magnetic field is generated thereby in a second direction perpendicular to the direction of extension of the wiring 15. On the occasion, such a magnetic field as to saturate the element 12 is generated. Then, the amount of the current I to be detected is detected on the basis of a resistance value of the element 12.
