Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the magnetic field detecting element with high sensitivity and broad dynamic range, by giving different width for at least one MR element from the direction flowing in it in the sense current, in the magnetic field detection element consisting of one of a plurality of MR elements formed on the substrate.
CONSTITUTION: The two strip shape MR elements 7, 8 having the same thickness and different widths W1, W2 are formed on the substrate 11 in the form of series connection together with the conductor terminals 9 and 10. They are connected to the current supply source 13 and the output terminal 14 via the conductor terminals 9 and 10. Further, W1 is greater than W2. The sensitivity of the MR element 7 W1 in width is greater than that of the MR element 8 W2 in width to the broadwise magnetic field HX. Accordingly, the MR element 8 is not saturated to the saturation magnetic field to the MR element 7. The MR elements like these can be plurally arranged in equal interval of 1/4 of the bit length. Thus, the dynamic range can be made broader with high sensitivity.
